Watching other people play games

I watched this the other day and was somewhat baffled by the whole thing. Why do people pay to watch other people play games? Eh?

I barely get the esports thing, but can kinda see why you might want to watch the elite play a game, but some random person?

Am I missing the appeal? It's odd (for example) people watch a full distance race on F1 2017 rather than playing it themselves, I watched about 10 minutes of a livestream when MS were giving away Rare replay (for doing so), and that was enough of watching people play a game whilst talking shite.

I only watch such things for a review of a game or need to know something.

I sometimes watch super high level players why? So I can see how they do things and perhaps learn from it.

I'd never pay to watch though.

I'll learn from it. I stream myself doing Trials.on destiny 1 and 2.

I watched the Overwatch world cup too... Learn lots from top players.

The same reason people listen to podcasts, they enjoy listening to the person doing it. It's not my cup of tea but I enjoy watching Speed Runs.
