Hello chaps,

the bike is out of warranty,

I am going to replace the starter battery, will the bike loose the time on the clock or any mileage or settings when I disconnect the old battery ?

I can lash up an additional standby battery during the change but there is added risk if I short anything out.

As for the oil change I have some fully synthetic 5w-40 oil it says on the bike to use 10w-40,
Would 5w-40 oil be too thin ?

Thanks for your help ?

You will need to reset the clock. There are no other settings to lose.

5W40 will be fine, assuming it's an appropriate bike oil. If it's a car specific oil then it could cause clutch slip - a small number of car oils have been known to do this, magnatec was always a problem.

R.
Thank you for that.

Regards using 5w-40 that is what I use in the car and I have about 4 litres of that.

I have some mineral oil that I use in the lawn mowers and maybe that would be a safer bet.

Also regards changing the battery I might try have a spare 12 volt battery patched across the old bike battery but it is a bit fiddly as there is not much room, not like doing that on a car.

Thank you for your reply. Smile Smile Smile
