evening folks... been looking at some of the powered cars/bikes for the lad for christmas...

not sure what to get. the official bmw stuff seems nicely finished. GS bike and mini we saw were both nice.

but they were 6v and others we have seen were 12v...

is there much/any difference or is there anything else I should be looking at?

I guess a half decent speed and half decent run time are the most important things.

lol, nah he's turning 2 shortly...

he's got a bus he powers with his legs.. and he's got the steering down with the handlebars it has... so figured he might enjoy a powered one.

...but not that sort of power Wink

6V Shocked

Your going to traumatise the poor lad. He'll think you don't trust him with POWER. He'll think he's a wuss and be scarred for life.

Show him you care and get him something for boys. ie 12V and not BMW. Thumbs Up Laughing

Oset trials bike Thumbs Up

https://osetbikes.com/gb/bikes/oset-12-5-eco/

Quote:
The 'Eco' version is sister to the 12.5 Racing model. It is simple, sturdy, adjustable and easy to manage for riders from 2-5. The Eco utilizes a component set suited to new riders and is offered at a lower price than the Racing version.

Safety features are paramount. On on/off handlebar switch is easily operated by the rider, while the separate key switch is easily removable by the parent when it's time to take a break! The OSET controller has been designed for our exclusive '2 dial' system, which allows parents to easily adjust the characteristics of the bike. By simply removing the rubber bung in the 'tank' area, the responsible adult can adjust the speed and response of the bike. It can be set from a very mellow machine at walking pace and low power, all the way up to maximum power for more experienced riders. For those learning to ride, the throttle response can be set so the reaction of the bike to throttle openings is softened./

My son has a 12v car. In high mode it'll do about 5mph. It gets up fairly steep hills. Battery, 2 in fact, is excellent. Will last 30 mins on the flat easy. Has voltage dash display. Only bad point is very poor turning circle.

Deffo 12v, make sure it's two wheel drive too (twin motor) - single wheel drive is crappity crap.
When my son was two (he's now three and he still uses it), I bought him a Ford Ranger 12v with 2wd, it has two speeds, forward/reverse and remote control (that also controls steering), it also has independent suspension - even has a leather seat!
Not massively fast, but it doesn't get stuck on small bumps:

I've no idea about specific models; however....
For the most part voltage and power probably are related; but that isn't always the case.

For instance I've got a motor that runs at around 2000w on 18v, and another that could easily be set to be at 250w on 48v (though I've for the most part had them at around 1000w to be fair - but still over double the voltage for half the power.)

Anyway; minimoto.

If you have the space or a nearby field, I'd go for a 50cc quad. Mine all loved it. It will fill you with paternal pride to see your kid doing doughnuts in the snow.... Plus being chased off by the fuzz is great fun if a little irresponsible on the parenting front.

Sure, they will crash and roll it so there is an element of risk, but we've had fewer injuries on the quad than on pushbikes or sledging.
