I used to have one of these, none stop problems with the thing, yours has transformed into a diesel by sounds of it, common problem with peugeot's.

That doesn't sound good, sounds like a tractor, not sure of the problem but it sounds like something is seriously loose, I'd strip the top end down and have a look there, if you are lucky its something in the top end and they are dirt cheap, check the crank for free play though whilst you are in there.

I had a speedfight earlier this year and sold it before i'd even bought it (bought for £100 - just needed belt replacing, sold for £300) reason that came about people often see me tinkering on my bikes in the garage and ask me if I know anyone selling a ped and I had seen this one available round the corner so told him I would have one the next week available.
