It's actually got slightly more torques than a Ninja 300, it's just that they're going to run out very quickly.
Still, the target market isn't likely to be making that comparison. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Did it take this long to get here because of the poor power to weight ratio they were complaining about two years ago? I'd imagine walking would be quicker ____________________

No. That doesn't work in my view. It's messy and bitsy. The 'oil tank' shape is wrong. The rear of the bike looks like it's been made from Meccano.
I like retro, I love he new 650 RE but that leaves me absolutely cold. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Personally, I like the overall style and proportions, but I have doubts about the overall quality, fit and finish. I'm sure they would have gone for a gloss single-colour finish, but the rudimentary paint shops in which these are made would have made inconsistencies obvious, and thus more time (money) would be needed to get a gloss finish and lacquer right. I recognise the basic twin rear shocks - the exact ones are sold on Ebay for a huge range of twin-shock bikes, but the slightly more expensive Chinese adjustable ones aren't offered for this bike. Going by its sheer mass, it will be low-grade standard tubular steel - making up for imprecise tolerances and composition by thickness, I guess. Can't see the frame welds but I imagine they're ugly, like on old-school Japanese bikes. No idea why the power output is so low but maybe the ignition system could be tweaked to produce more. In short, I think the concept and drawings were great, but I suspect a lot of cost-cutting has taken place in the realisation. Wouldn't be happy with that in a new bike. |

I think it's like the Skoda Roomster, the bloke who was designing it did a pretty good job for the front half, died, and someone else rushed the rear end through without seeing what the first guy had done.

Working as I do in the bodyshop trade, I always thought that looked like a bloke bought the wrong parts car to do a ringer on and decided to stitch them together anyway.
That's an even bigger design disaster than the Ssangyong Rodius, which looks like a family hatchback that's reversed into a conservatory.

Meanwhile, back to the bike, I'm with Polar, doesn't do it for me.
Mash 400 yes, RE Interceptor definitely, but that thing reminds me of the days when the Japs tried to rip off European/American car designs and got it just enough wrong to totally destroy the credibility.
Too fussy, proportions wrong and using the Benelli name does nothing for it. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

That really pisses me off with the Chinese. Make a bike and stand by it with your own name. Stop trying to live on the coat tails of great marques and in the process destroying or demeaning their history. |
It is their own name, they own it, just like Triumph, they too own the name, or, VW with Ducati etc
Or, you could look at it the other way round, and have say BMW rebadge TVS bikes, or Harley rebadge Qianjiang, as they will soon be doing, or, Triumph rebadgeing a Bajaj etc etc ...
As for the Imperiale, sitting on it it feels ergonomically rather nice, if you want, you can have a all black one.
Performance wise, it appears to be somewhere between the RE 350 & 500, it's got pretty good reviews in India, the other competitor over there being Jawa, now, that's a nice looking bike, if it was to ever make it over here ...
Oh, speaking of Enfields, if you do fancy a new Bullet 500, times running out, looks like they'll stop making them from early next year, and they won't be upgrading the 500cc engine to hit the new BS6. Likewise, the old 350 bullet is being pulled for the same reason, although, there is a new 'Classic 350' on the way, with a engine based on the 650's..
Oh, and GT535 is going as well, so, should look to the Herald Cafe 400 then.. ____________________ Beware what photos you upload, or link to on here, especially if you have family members on them |

I also think that’s a handsome bike, and more my cup of tea.

Yes they own the name, having bought it for the sole reason of trying to make people believe that they are getting a Benelli. A bike from a factory with the heritage of the Sei.
What other reason is there to buy a name and nothing else, like AJS and MG other than to fool people into thinking they are buying something they are not? |
So, do you think people still think they are buying an original Triumph, you know the german company that setup in the UK on the site that is now a housing estate?, just the same as why did Stuart Garner by the Norton name, happens everywhere, in every country for pretty much the same reasons ____________________ Beware what photos you upload, or link to on here, especially if you have family members on them |

Hi All, well, I decided, even though the HPS125 was a cracking little 125, it was just a little too cramped for me, so, I sold it, and bought a Benelli Imperiale 400, which arrived today ! Woohoo !! Gave a quick covering of corrosion blocker, give it some protection from the copious amounts of roadsalt here, and took it for a spin of about 40 miles, around some of my familiar roads, over to Halfpenny Green & back, not necessarily the shortest route !! Haha. Ensuring I don't go above 4000rpm, whilst I run it in, having said that it will happily sit at 55 just under 4000rpm, so, no great hardship. First impressions, I love it, reminded me of everything that was so good about my Bullet 350, and, nothing of anything that was bad. Gear changes are nice & smooth, decent pickup, handles the farm tracks, minor roads perfectly well, very comfortable. I think I've finally found the perfect stablemate to my other 2 bikes 👍 Now, I've just got to wash the mud assorted gunk off it !! Anyhow, here's some photos from today's little familiarisation run..

Well it looks very nice and traditional (which I like) but what's with all these anaemic engines? I know it's replacing your 125 but 10kW to 15kW isn't much a jump ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

To be fair, the power isn't an issue, I've 2 other bikes that will easily go above 80 if I so desire, but the Imperiale isn't a bike you get to ride fast on, still, they are bringing out a Imperiale 500 sometime this year, so, no doubt that will have a bit more poke. It has a very similar power and torque as a Royal Enfield 350, slightly more, but generally in that ballpark area. I'll tell you 1 thing, it's solid !! ____________________ Beware what photos you upload, or link to on here, especially if you have family members on them |
