Why does it need an overhaul? Also what do you mean by overhaul?

70K miles?
Does it sound like the cam-chain is making a bid for freedom?
That's far more often the generator chain!

Mine's been sounding like the seven dwarves on speed for a decade... I'll start to worry when it STOPS sounding dire, and the battery is flat!

Otherwise, change the oil... change t again, and fit new plugs. Its a tough old lump, and the self-adjusting hydraulic tappets gumming up is about the biggest worry.

If it needs the motor torn down, then really its practcally scrap. These are NOT valuable machines. A late 200x example in mint condition will rarely command £1500, and if you are not up to a DIY rebuild, any paid mechanic is likely to rack up a bill that would buy you a much newer lower mile example, before they have told you that the cylinder head needs to be sent away cos the exhaust studs have sheared.

Plenty of tatty runng examples kicking about in the spares/repairs/projet bike bracket; its the same engine as in the US import 750 Night-Hawk, there are probably as many examples of about.... and they don't command big money.

When mine finally dies, if it does so before I do! An engine tear-down will almost certainly NOT be on the cards. At best, I might see if I can get a better motor from a breakers, or buy a whole MOT fail bike with a better motor, and then probably hum and har over whether to swap that motor into mine, or swap better bits on mine onto that....

But most likely, I'll be looking for another bike, and in all liklihood, much affection as I have for towld-dawg, probably not another Seven-Fifty! I do like it's air-cooled back-to-basics simplicity, and it not being a Divvy or Blandit... b-u-t, been there done that.. I'd probably be hunting for something different, just for the difference, and avodg the hassle.

Still more typos than a Pikey rewriting Shakespeare though, he wouldn't be Tef otherwise. Laughing
