£40 later for a new brake pedal, and it's good to go
But lesson learnt, and hopefully won't be doing it again
Oh yeah, i was fine too, a bit achy the following day though |
Crash bungs? I always thought the engine casings looked a bit vulnerable on them. |
Yep, it's got crash bungs fitted, did a great job of saving 95% of the bike ____________________ Current Bike: Honda CG125 ES4 // Honda CB600FS Hornet // Triumph Street Triple R |

If it's anything like the one they gave me, I wouldn't fancy riding with it on. Seems to me likely to cause worse injury in a crash. "Stabbed in the throat" could have been very serious for one thing! ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

28. (Paint diagram to follow).
On the way to work, turned off the main road onto a country lane, hit a sheet of black ice, bike weaved about a lot, I thought WTF is happening a lot, kissed tarmac/ice.
Bike damage is scuffed fairing, fooked brake lever and bent mirror.
Me damage is sore right knee and elbow but nothing serious.
I'm more pissed off than physically hurt. ____________________ There ain't no devil, there's just god when he's drunk.

Well, that'll be when you get your karma.

Presumably when payment has been received too? I'm not a stingy Scotsman, so I can award karma when I want

"Interesting" - there does seem to be a fair bit of erm 'wriggle room' for councils. The road I live on is simultaneously remote (and probably at the end of any official gritting route that may or may not exist in some sort of codified form) yet also a popular means of getting from one town to another, for many vehicles. All week it's been icy and frosty all over from early in the morning to late morning, when some meagre sun has melted the worst of it.
Yesterday there were three cars on their sides in the very deep - i.e. 6ft deep - ditches, and a couple the day before.
Every morning and evening one guy goes passed on a scooter - unbelievable, as it's as much as most people can do to get from one side of the road to the other on foot. I expect this kid to potter by with feet down as out-riggers, but nope. Just bimbles by like it's summer. Someone needs to scout him for BSB. ____________________ "Life is a sexually transmitted disease and the mortality rate is one hundred percent."

The road it happened on is a private road leading to the car park at work. They are denying any responsibility. I'm arguing that they have a duty of care and there are multiple sacks of grit at the side of the road where it happened, which have not been used. Even after reporting it this morning, nothing has been done and it's freezing up again, so will be getting a taxi home tonight.
Waiting for my unions legal bods to get back to me, to see if I have a case. Total damage is probably around £400. ____________________ There ain't no devil, there's just god when he's drunk.

Yehbut, if they used the grit to clear the road, they wouldn't have any grit left to not use to not clear the road. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

They have the grit, you chose not to use it. As an employee that has noticed the danger, and an interest in the danger being removed, you said "not my job" and chose to get a taxi. Are you expecting that they hire someone specifically for the task? |
I imagine that your journey was even more potentially fatal, particularly from the height you appear to be at on that horse. ____________________ Mpd72: I can categorically say i’m Brighter than that, no matter how I come across on here.

You are correct, it is not my job to grit the road and car park, that is what we have a maintenance department.. However, you presume wrongly that I have not put any grit down. I actually did do this after discovering the problem.
As for walking, are you suggesting I walk on black ice? Get the bus you say, what bus would that be, seeing as no busses serve the area? Get a lift you say. From who? I was the only person coming on shift at that time.
All of this is irrelevant anyhow. The employer has a duty of care to staff on their premises. They failed to do this and as a result I suffered a financial loss. ____________________ There ain't no devil, there's just god when he's drunk.
