I know there are 1 or 2 on here, so I thought I'd post. The sole flying civil Antonov AN-22 is due to do a couple of flights into Manchester Airport over the next few days ..
30/11/2017 - Manchester Arrival time - 21:15
01/12/2017 - Manchester departure time - 11:30
05/12/2017 - Manchester Arrival time - 18:45
06/12/2017 - Manchester departure time - 11:00
It's an impressive aircraft ..

Seeing the Antonov in person must be a surreal experience. |

The AN225 is fairly regular at Finningley (Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood) I still dont see what's wrong with Finningly airport as a name, that's where it is.
I've never bothered videoing it but someone has. Google tells me that the runway is 60 meters wide and 2895 long.

Could it be that no one's really sure of the spelling? ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I keep referring to Manchester as Ringway because it used to be and is at the village of Ringway, formally in Cheshire.
Manchester has 'city' airport much closer (but technically in Salford) to Manchester itself. |
Yeah, I keep calling it Ringway as well, and, Manchester City airport is Barton to me, and always will be, oh, and of course, it's Finningley ____________________ Beware what photos you upload, or link to on here, especially if you have family members on them |

I'm not an aficionado, however I worked at Pafos airport when they were building the new terminal. A large Antonov, very similar to the one in the OP, would arrive every two weeks.
It was always a surprise when it actually got off the ground, it seemed to trundle along the runway very slowly, (compared to anything else), it also seemed to use a lot more of the runway before getting airborne.
Quite a spectacle really! ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

Have been in an Antonov AN225 , stationary on a runway .... but walking inside is ...... just weird.
They are big beyond what you could comprehend a plane to be and still get airborne.
Matt - it was Fairford i got inside that plane, the year the 2 Migs collided in mid air.

Was digging through a few old photo's earlier and the security is hilarious looking back now . Not sure if they've been static/ground bound at all in recent years as I've not been to a show for quite a while, but considering this was late 90's and they were still relatively "new" technology; the first year the F117 had a single unarmed guard stood with it . The following year they upgraded this to a couple of armed police and a "restricted" sign on the fence. Don't think they would get away doing that anymore! |
They have an SR71 at Duxford
I got glared at by the security on an F117 static display at Fairford. Don't think he liked how interested I was in it, with the camera (I was interested, as I had worked in EW in the RAF). Ffs, don't bring it to an airshow then you dimwit!
I worked for two years at an airbase where U2s were based. The security there was very tight. No one but authorised personnel were allowed anywhere near that side of the airfield, not even us RAF hosts.
Had a photo I took of a B2 flypast at Fairford. Taken from the front, it looked like the typical idea of a UFO, gave some idea of where such "sightings" might have come from.
