Cool story update....
Took to indie, who looked at it and confirmed the first opinion, but unlike kwikfit took the time to show me the gouge in the inside of the tyre wall and said he would repair it if I wanted it for a spare or a trailer around town but if it's going under load/at speed Tut Tut Tut Tut Tut Tut

But he did charge me a couple of quid less than kwikies best online price, had them in stock and it was sorted. Quite good service. Well impressed

KwikFit are robbing bar-stewards.

Had a mate who is quite technically capable when it comes to cars and needed it MOT'ing.

Did the pads and discs himself and took it to MOT at KF. When he came back they presented him with a £200 bill and advised him they had to replace all the pads around the car as they were dangerously worn! Even showed him the pads they had taken off, which had been blatently cut through by them to make it look like they were worn!

A short sharp discussion later, they replaced all the damaged pads and he left paying for nothing, MOT thrown in free because of the "mix up" in their words.

Back home in the Philippines there are streetside 'Vulcanisers' everywhere. I have picked up several punctures while driving there but always have an air pump in the car. They will fix any puncture where ever it is on the tyre and I have never had a flat due to a bad repair. Normal cost is about £3 to £4

Here in the UK most places will write off a tyre just for a hole too near the edge for stupid health and safety reasons or they want you to buy a new tyre. What a rip off.

Bit of an odd way to think of it? It’s not “stupid” health and safety reasons. It’s because the tyre might blow out at motorway speeds.

Just because it hasn’t happened to you doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen!

I’ve never been attacked by an alligator... I still know swimming in the Florida Keys isn’t the best idea.
