Hi everyone

I have an A2 motorcycle license which allows me to ride up to 35KW or 47bhp.

I would love to get a BMW F650 Funduro, which are specked at 35KW but 48bhp!!!

Does this need to be restricted, if it's 35KW? Can't find any restrictor kits for it online.

cheers!

35 kW is 35 kW and I believe the legislation is defined in kW so you can safely ignore any bhp figures, which will have been converted and rounded with unknown accuracy and precision.

The law doesn't define if it's at the wheel or the crank, and I suspect the BMW figures are at the crank, so I'd guess you'll be OK.

With the 11kW and 25kW and now 35kW it's whatever the paperwork for that particular motorcycle says. Thumbs Up

But beware, there is the power to weight ratio limit as well. Power to weight ratio has to be no more than 0.2kW/kg.

Also, the new rule is that the maximum power output, that you may still restrict to be A2 compliant is 70kW. So no more R1/ZX10R/Fireblade/TLR... on A2 licence. People are still selling liter bikes with 25kW in the paperwork. Razz

The other thing is, I've been getting the specs from motorcyclespecs website. I guess I would need to get something official from BMW saying it does 35kw..

Is the power to weight ratio wet weight or dry weight? Because if it's wet then I'm fine.

Funduro should be fine, tbh anything wearing the BMW badge except the S1000 series tends to blend into the background so nobody pays attention to them anyway.

I can't find any contemporary manual or specs, but the chances of it actually being over 35kW now are vanishingly small. For licensing purposes, it's what the bike's actually making when you're riding it that matters.

Wikipedia's unsourced claim puts the Funduro well under the limit.

The ones you want to avoid are the F650GS (single) and the related X-bikes which all claimed over 35kW.

You could also consider the more recent G650GS which was designed to be bang on the A2 limit. Given that Funduro owners reckon their ancient hacks are still worth £2K, you won't have to pay much more for a far more recent machine with much the same engine.

Heck most bikes are like that now.
Picking up a decent bandit or fazer for sub £2K is getting hard. Used to pick them up for under 1k

I did all my A2 training and test on(training schools) non-restricted F650gs. Want to say it was 2012, whatever engine that makes it in the 650 series.

That makes it a G650GS.

Granted, it could have been an earlier F650GS, on the basis that nobody on allah's green earth will ever really give a stuff about a couple of kW here or there.
