Noticed an odd noise coming from the rear shocks on the way home tonight. Checking it at home, there is a clunking/chunk noise when the back is compressed right down.

What is it likely to be? I thought maybe the bushes are worn but I haven't worked on the suspension on any bike I have had yet so that is just a guess.

It's a CB500S so it's dual shocks.

Fair bet it's the sus. You could do a visual check with a vehicle inspection lamp if you have one, otherwise the sus will need to come off for a detailed look at it - perished or cracked rubber bushes. There is meant to be a small bump stop at the bottom of all sus's and if that has worn away you can get a loud clunk sound under hard use as the suspension bottoms out on the swing arm, but you wouldn't hear that during normal day to day driving.

Let us know what the cause is. Ta.
