Hi, anyone used a OGIO Mach 1/3/5 backpacks ?
I'm looking at getting one, quite a considerable amount of difference in cash between the 3,but not sure if there is much difference in spec and size between the 3 models.

Not used one, but is there any reason not to go for a tail pack?

Don't like the idea of backpacks at all in a crash and I struggle to see how a drag efficient speed racer backpack is going to be any better unless you're head down arse up behind the screen pinning it and requiring minimal drag to hit top speed. A normal bag doesn't pull around in the airflow in my experience, and a tail bag is an all round nicer, safer option

Sorry couldn't help specifically on the product.

No experience with that brand but I'm using a Kriega R30 at the moment and it's excellent on the bike (terrible off the bike though)

I've also got a Kriega US20 tailpack which is brilliant, although I am always wary of it after two straps managed to become dislodged at speed even though they were properly secured.

Why in the name of God do you want to spend £100 on a little 22l 'aero' backpack?

Do you think the drag of a 'normal' backpack is going to vastly impact on your top speed?

Save your money and use any backpack you fancy that is sturdy and will fit everything you need to carry in it!

I've had a Berghaus bag since way before I jumped on a bike.
It's great on and off the bike but then I don't really do motorway speeds with it on.
If I did and I had a problem with lift, I'd just use the waste strap.

I agree with this post.

My backpack was under 30 ponds has lots of pockets for grenades etc when I'm on black OP missions plenty of places to hang carabiner clips from for my SPAS-12 and finally most crucially it has strong zips.

I know you're joking about its uses, but do you remember the make of the bag? Can't believe how much some companies are asking for a rucksack.

I use this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/High-visibility-rucksack-backpack-Yellow/dp/B0012ITY5Q daily on my bicycle and occasionally on a motorbike. Its sturdy and hi viz, I will replace it soon as the 'rubberized' coating on the interior is starting to break-up and the mesh pockets have broken through but it is 2 years old at least. Excellent value.

I have two Ogio backpacks. Neither cost a lot of money. One cost I think £30 and the other £15. They are both excellent, and they are both well built, but neither is a hard shell type.

I'm happy with them, but I bought them because they are cheap, not for any other reason.

If you are using a rucksack, then consider putting a dry bag inside it as a liner if you are anything other than a fair weather rider; few rucksacks are genuinely waterproof, and the dry bag route allows you to choose a well-fitting rucksack of the right size regardless of any claimed waterproof properties. It is also moveable from one rucksack to another when the rucksack wears out, or you can use a few smaller sacks to separate out what you are carrying (tools in one, wallet and phone in another, sandwiches in another, clean office clothes in a fourth) to avoid getting stuff wet when you have to go into your bag in the pouring rain as you only open the one you need.

https://www.safari-guide.co.uk/lowe-alpine-vector-25-review/

Love mine, ridden it in the pissing rain and it's never been anything but superdry inside.

More expensive than your usual backpacks, but it's made for proper outdoor use.

Fits nice and snug too, with all the adjustments you can make.

I have had this 30 quid Andy mcnab backpack for 7 months now. Still solid, holds up to rain well (but id use a dry liner if touring or looking at a few hours in heavy rain), comfy and massive, with loopy bits to cabletie any extra shizzle to

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004LSBYR0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_41.sAbGH1YZT3

Can recommend. I have the black one because ninja, but many colours are available. It's used daily either on the bike, at work and 3 hour round trip commute on the train, does the business.

Hindsight s brilliant. My hindsight is 20:20... knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have used a backpack back in 2015 on the day I had 'my' accident.

Now I'm getting there but I smashed T12-L5, lost use of rear left leg, glute, etc. Pissing was interesting for a while.

Spose not too much of an issue if you're just carrying your work clothes/paperwork.

My personal preference is to avoid carrying luggage on you, whilst on the bike, if at all possible - I also prefer hard luggage to throw-overs for similar reasons - loose luggage hurts!

Animal.

Thumbs Up although I occasionally carry more than I should, such as a bottle of wine amongst the shopping. I'm not keen on bike-mounted luggage unless it's a long trip.
What was in your rucksack when you hit the deck?

Tools. Not the best idea! And hindsight again - it was a nice day so I decided to take the shiny instead of one of the rats. Should've just fitted the top box.

And I aint got 4 legs... normal 2 lol, but lost the use of the back of my left leg.

+1 for tailbag. A rucksack is a pain in the arse getting it on and off over a motorcycle jacket. Repeated use of one did my shoulder in for a while. The tail bag I have was £15 (unbranded chinese tat) but it fits well and is surprisingly 100% waterproof. I think I sprayed some Rainex or whatever on it last year but it still doesn't leak when left outside of work all day in the rain.

Got a Kriega R15 backpack, expensive but excellent quality, but only really use it for the camelpack and maybe some small soft items. Like most I prefer not having heavy pack on my back.

Also got a swmotech tank bag that I use to carry my chain as I can't be arsed looking like a twat trying to get my leg over/around a tailbag.

A mate got that XLMoto backpack, he doesn't really rate it, but have heard others say it's decent.

Been using one of these for years for all bike stuff and touring. Obviously not as full as the pic so its not pushing against the back of your lid, but the shoulder and waist supports are key. Separate waterproof shell inside also.

Rather have a top box if you can though.
