VICE (1/10) AVOID!
Bruce Willis's worst ever film, until footage of him beating a disabled child to death surfaces. This film should have died hard on the cutting room floor.
A tale based on similar principles of Westworld, but the acting is worse than any semi-synthetic lifeform could achieve.
Given the number of gun related deaths in America, you'd have thought they were quite good marksmen/women, but of the thousands of bullets fired at the female lead, none hit.
The good cop role, complete with cool car (which would never get signed off with tax dollars), was woefully carried out by some matchstick chewing parodical fairground mirror of the worst 80's cheesey rogue detective character.
Nobody gave a single fuck when they made this, I turned it off after 30 mins, probably 20 of those I was talking through.
I'd give the female lead one, hence the score. ____________________

Action movie masquerading as a war movie.
Religious conscientious objector finds way to go to into the thick of war without having to kill anyone.
Abundant god-fearing, bible-loving, made-right-in-the-USA, "we all love our country and can fight even if we don't want to" undertones.
Turns out it was about a real guy, so hats off to him. Shit movie anyway. That was obvious from the point we were introduced to Vince Vaughan playing the angry bootcamp sergeant. Lots of emotive music and slow-mo explosions; a classic symptom of a director who has no idea how to make a scene work.
Will definitely not watch again. |
it was an okayish film, in reality I believe the dude just signed up to be a medic, and they said yeah sure didn't try and bounce him out, he really did save all those people of course, but not sure he did it quite the way it was shown
what I took from it, is that if I had a time machine and found myself enlisting in 1940s USA, the Army looks easier than the marines!
Bladerunner 2049
Watching it at the momemt. So far, so boring. |

Forbidden Daughters 1927 : 9/10
Early porn. Cracking tale of adventure as Alva travels to the heart of the African continent to rescue her beau from the clutches of some tart of a Queen.
Could do with an updated soundtrack. Goldie Lookin Chain perhaps? Its on YouTube and possibly safe for work
Its only 13 minutes long, but I guess that's all you need. |

The Greatest Showman
I got dragged to see this as the mrs wanted to watch it, the lad was with us and everything else worth seeing was either a higher age rating than he is allowed to watch, or we'd already seen it.
It was a lot better than I expected. The same musicians did the score for this that also did the LaLaLand soundtrack.
The story was good, cinematography was unreal, and the choreography was impressive. Strong 8/10, pushing 9.
Last night, we stuck a film on through NowTV, The Infiltrator.
Bryan Cranston plays a Customs agent working undercover to infiltrate the drugs and banking scene in 80's Florida. Really interesting, and a good film to watch alongside American Made (more comedic than this) as the films sort of intertwine. Interesting, well made and has the right pacing. 8/10 ____________________ thx1138 wrote: Well if you had a car, I'd bet it would smell like urine had had drunken sex with vomit and made a poo baby.

Alien Covenant 6/10
Ticked most the boxes, was okay, bit pedestrian in places. David/Walter androids stole the show, other bits all very samey.
Probably doesn't help that I'm quite fuzzy on Alien lore, and have seen the films too far apart, and not necessarily in the correct order, either chronologically or sequentially, so maybe missed some references put in to please the fans.
Like many movies, it was 30 minutes too long for what it was, in fact could have taken out much but not all of the human interactions and it would have worked.
So, it was a film about A.I anti heroes, with some b movie space cadet chasing about and monsters thrown in. |

Darkest Hour 7.5/10. Well worth watching. Gary Oldman wasn't particularly convincing as churchill but in the round it was a very good movie and perfectly captured the moment, both cinematographically and historically (though I have no idea if the bit on the tube happened in reality).
And his secretary, damn but I'd like a couple of hours with her. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

I was very disappointed with the whole movie. No reason to have any sympathy for the characters. A bunch of idiots who you wouldn't leave in charge of a Lego car never mind a multi-gazilion dollar spaceship get up to dumb s#it to drive a clumsy plot which achieves nothing except to explain what happened to Noomi Rapace. |

Turned it off after 30 mins, should I have given it longer

I thought it was better than Prometheus but too predictable. |
