Maybe pick something a bit easier to restore?

Said I was going to get it running and look into getting it road registered. It runs but it's too rusty to be road legal.

My only gripe with the thread is Photobucket causing the images to disappear. Not all restorations go to plan, I thought it was a good read regardless.

Yeh photobucket started charging $300 a year to host photos... shame as all my photos were on there

It's too rusty to realistically use on the roads again. There are bits inside the frame that have rusted through, hence the decision to make it more of an off-road bike.

Did a motorbike tour of Vietnam in December, bought an old "Honda" Win, which was a vietnamese copy, 110cc. Was a great little bike, similar design to the A100 but four stroke engine.

Cool update - thanks . You might be able to pick up a frame from ebay or even patch the one you have - meanwhile a second lease of life as an off-roader is not so bad!

Cheers

To rusty to get on the road? Piffle!
C’mo You can do it! Stop putting hurdles in the way of progress.
Fix one small thing at a time.

I had two A 100’s years ago and they were in a worse state than that when I got them.
Both of them went to new owners who put them on the road.

I did it small steps at a time ie one week a throttle cable, a month later a new chain and so on.
I was lucky that I had an arc welder and various bits of metal to repair a rusty patch on the pressed metal frame.

Indeed so - I just re-registered my project '76 GT250 as historic. My A100 is 1980 so still a year or two to go. This one (in spite of tank) is an earlier model than mine V5 will reveal all if you have one.

Indeed so, very similar machines - pressed steel frame, disc valve 2T motor etc..

I agree it looked better before, would of been a great bike to restore to concourse. especially with it being a rare model.

I would love another A100 but good ones are about 4k now Crying or Very sad

Why do people insist on making field bikes out of totally unsuitable machines anyway?

We're not in the 70's/80's where skint kids had to ride anything they could get their hands on. There's a ton of used trail/Enduro/MX and pit bikes out there now that are all much more suitable for field use than a once classic little lightweight commuter.

All these cheap Chinese pit and off road bikes, and unwanted 2stroke MX bikes should mean that people can leave road bikes alone, or leave them to the restorers.

I could certainly put it back on the road or even restore it, but I don't want a restored bike, I want one I can use on the beach or the machair. It's still pretty well looked after, engine runs perfectly, brakes are adjusted, oils changed.
If it was concourse it would sit in my shed and never get any use, any time spent on it would be cleaning and polishing it.

Happy to sell it if anyone wants to restore it, I'd like to see where I can find a reliable off road bike for £130...

Sold the A100 to a friend of mine, to fund my GP100 project.
Using this lockdown time to do some work to both of them, A100 is apart at the moment for some TLC

Genuinely a lot of old roads around here, great for spinning about.

Bike turned out pretty well, still starts so easily and runs beautifully. He's ordered a new rear mudguard along with a few other bits, could do with an exhaust and decals.
