Hola,

Bought an 1070 Ti 8G OC... replacing my radeon, so just thought I'd double check its power requirements. I have an 850W modular so power wise and output wise is OK, but the pins on the power connectors are my downfall.

It requires an 8 pin and a 6 pin.

I have 2 6 pin connections currently, but they are labelled at 6+2. Does this mean I can use one of them as an 8 pin, or do I need to find and 8 pin to 8 pin, my PSU has 8 pin outputs, so I could buy the cable if needed.

Assuming its this one...

I’d have thought the 6+2 will do the same job. Look at the profile of the pins, they should be the same as the 8 pin.

They are, but several places say yes, some say no, some say its double ground, some say one is 12v one is 0v... without grabbing my multimeter and giving a prod, I really don't know.

It is still a 6 pin at the other end I'd imagine... can't see that deep because fans n ting.

I've run an 8 pin on 6+2, in fact I think my current 1060 is set up like that.

I'm not a super pc wizz though, I just did it because I assumed it was correct, and they fit.

At first I suggested 6+2 pin as well, but then realising this might not work as intended and deleted the post. 6 pin = 75W, 8 pin = 150W, 6+2 pin = ???. The PCIe x16 = 75W.

1070Ti = 180W

Just like with motherboards that have 8 CPU power pins, your computer will work if you only plug in 4, but if you have a power hungry CPU, the CPU will crash or underclock at high load. The same should happen to a GFX card, I suppose.

I've never had any problems using 6+2.

If it's the PSU you got from me then I expect I'd been using it for 6+2. Laughing

Plug it all in then run furmark and see what happens. https://www.geeks3d.com/20170502/furmark-1-19-gpu-burner-stress-test-opengl-benchmark/

6+2 is normal.
my 290x is running 6+2 & 6.

If you're on a shitty PSU you may have problems with it not being able to put enough current out on the 12v rail.

I agree with Ste, plug it in and test it. The worst case scenario, the GPU will crash under heavy load = not enough power. No damage may occur.

Yes, this one.

I'll plug it in and pray to Allah.

From those two I'm gonna say the i5 wins, speaking about gaming. The Ryzen 7 is a good chip, but not quite suited for gaming, call it wasted potential with some performance hits in various AAA games.

See this: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8600K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-1700/3941vs3917

EDIT: IF all you want is perfect 60fps performance, then even cheaper chips would do.

I want as high as poss. Literally the highest FPS I can get. But I'd want it to be at least 60.

All good, New pc up and running, had to modify the case and remove some sound deadening... and a hard drive bay to fit the graphics card but all is working well.

Sub 25 degrees on CPU whilst gaming and 50 on the GPU. Seems to be alright!

Just need to remove all these old mechanical drives and go fully SSD.
