My Xbox 360 (elite? about 9 years old, not the mk1 that had red ring of death) power supply is making the most awful noise

Got 3 of the 4 screws out the bottom, and snapped the other one, got the cover off, removed sticker from heat shield over fan - can't get the scews out

blew out as much dust from everywhere as I could and put it back together, it's still annoying though

My little screwdrivers came out of a christmas cracker, literally,

anyone know the right sizes, set of screwdrivers to get? need to take the fan out of the plastic housing and clean it, hoping that will stop it making a noise.

OP, buy one of the tiny screwdriver kits. It's cheap and it has all the bits you'll ever need. Thumbs Up

I paid for my kit about £3. Make sure you pick the right kit for your needs, they are not all the same (different bits).

They are obviously not heavy duty, but these are great at opening electronics and worth having in a drawer.

Have something similar and it's got me out of trouble a good few times.

They don't need to be heavy duty. When you have screws this small, there's next to no torque on them.

With the kit Pjay suggested, I already built some computers, fixed all sorts of small electronics, wristwatches, glasses frames...

It's all really a ''gentle'' work.

IIRC I needed torx bits to open the console, brick is likely similar, you sure they are all Phillips head?

I bought one like this which had the bits I needed (I haven't checked prices) :

I've gone through more cheap sets of screwdrivers than I care to mention. Whilst the work is generally light, they are poorly made, don't fit properly in the screws, and deform or break.

Nowadays I use one of these:-
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kraftform-Micro-Set-Screwdriver-electronic-applications/dp/B009ODV0PI

It's expensive (though gone up quite a bit since I bought mine), but the difference is night and day. They fit into the heads, don't damage screws and don't break themselves. I'd not want to go back to a cheap Chinese "jewellers precision screwdriver" set again.

That one?

All the 'phat' consoles suffered from RRoD AFAIK, I'm effectively on my third as my original died and my second had a mobo replacement, which I believe MS still do for free out of warranty.

I think I chucked my spare PSU but I'll have a look, although it was from a launch console so you might not want it.

It has been rather useful, great if you have tiny little things, like T6 screws in a Mac Laughing

yup that's the one, my original white/grey 8mb died, got replaced or repaired, sort of died again but limped along - and was given to my inlaws, who use(d) it for streaming

thanks for the suggestions everyone Thumbs Up
