Do kegs of beer suffer the same problem as large bottles of fizzy soft drinks? I was about to buy a 6 litre thing seeing as bottles cost three times as much per litre.

But then had a thought... won't it go flat?

Whereby you open a bottle. Drink a bit of it, then put the cap back on and when you come back later the carbon dioxide in the drink has escaped into the now vacated space... so you get a flat drink.

I don't think I could finish 6 litres in one sitting either Very Happy

I had a king keg for my homebrew that would hold 5 to 6 gallons of beer. Secondary fermentation provided some pressure to force the beer out under pressure, but after a half dozen pints or so, the flow would slow. To remedy this, I could charge the keg with them little CO2 bulbs. I believe you can get the kegs to take a sodastream bottle too. If you didn't charge the keg to restore the pressure, not only would you struggle to get any beer out. But it would indeed go flat too.

Yep, only really good for parties etc., I guess that's why they're so cheap.

6 litres is about 14 440ml cans. That's just a typical Saturdays imbibing.

Not bad, but Pilsner Urquell (12°; lager) is money a bit better spent. That's what you've probably had in a pub, if you were in Prague or elsewhere in the Land of Beer. Unlike other Breweries, Pilsner Urquell isn't area specific, speaking of pubs. Very popular all over the country.

I think you're confusing beer with something else that's not beer.

Beer isn't fizzy and can be poured out of the keg under gravity.

Good for parties but for you want it to keep for a while then you're better off with a tap to go with it. This one is good, keeps it cool and a keg keeps for 30 days apparently. Not got one myself but my cousin and her man love theirs (big beer fiends).

Might be a limited selection of kegs though.

Or, alternatively, build a be, with beer engines, and get beer in polypins, and feed off the tap. As beer is drawn out, the polypin compresses, thus keeping the air out. Works a treat Thumbs Up

I might have to try it. Budvar's much nicer than regular budweiser, and a bit stronger Wasted You used to get it everywhere and it was quite cheap too, now its gone back to a bit of a niche beer so is quite expensive Sad

Settle a debate: sealed or unsealed oak tankard?

Oh, I see. Don't they call the Czech one ''Czechvar'' in the USA?

There was a big legal dispute over the name IIRC, probably why.

Guy over the water (Peerless Brewing) does mini kegs, and his have pop out taps, so you can 're-seal' of sorts, to keep the freshness. Do others not do this?

I don't really remember what it was about, but the result of the dispute was pretty much meaningless for the Land of Beer, the actual owner of the Budweiser Budvar brewery (the very last state brewery in the country). I don't even think Americans sell their beer here, can't find any in supermarkets and other places, you definitely won't find it in pubs. Thinking

You may order some American beer online here, but they're all 0,33L and feck expensive. Shocked
