How does <15 V from a running car charging system force too much current into a bike? I mean if you don't inadvertently reverse the jump leads' + & -.

At the end of the day, the Lidl charger is much cheaper than a car, though.

V = Voltage
A = Amperage/Current

Voltage on motorcycles/cars = the same
Current on motorcycles/cars = waaaaaay different

At the end of the day, the British educational system is a joke.

At my joke school, they called current I.

And I = V/R.

If V doesn't change, then I doesn't change.

We're not concerned with higher currents in car circuits.

This isn't backwoods Eastern Europe, we have dealers to do that shit for you. /s
Sweeping generalisations are stupid.

I can introduce you to a couple of Eastern European mates that would struggle to change a wheel on a car, let alone grasp the intricacies of a modern vehicles electrical system, but it doesn't mean they're a product of a shit school system.
Correlation ≠ causation.

Current is I, not A.
A is Amperes, the unit used to measure current.

A charger plugged into 240 mains has the potential to provide an incredibly high current in comparison to a car charging system

My house has a 100 A fuse.

They make 100 A automotive alternators.

100A@12v vs 100A@240V

The potential is decidedly different. The electronics in the charger limits the current available. Older car chargers had coils would to suit particular amperage ranges, hence why they needed to be suitable. As long as the output is withing the spec prvided by the battery, then it's fine, although trikle charging is almost always better .

Yes,

I = current, meassured in A
U = voltage, meassured in V

I was strictly speaking of units, because Triton Thrasher started with Volts and then somehow assumed the Amps were irrelevant.

I was probably misunderstanding what Nobby said. He's right- a very high current at 12 V DC could be supplied by a mains powered transformer and rectifier.

But, of course, 12 V potential difference won't put vast currents through circuits of high resistance.

The amps in a car seem pretty irrelevant to a bike.

It's at this point that the thread should really be handed over to Photonic Induction to explore the relationship between current and voltage in a way the common man can relate to.

No worries. Just bought one myself actually - save me swapping the Optimate around between bikes and car.

I went and bought one today too. Cheers for the heads up!

Let's see if it can revive a dead AGM battery..

If it won't charge a dead AGM battery, plug a good battery (doesn't have to be AGM) to the dead one and then plug the charger to the good battery. That'll trick the circuitry of the charger and start charging the dead one. Thumbs Up

By the way, you don't have to charge it up to full charge like this. Once your AGM battery is above 11V (I estimate 11.5V), which won't take long, you may unplug the good battery and plug the charger straight to the AGM battery that you want to charge.

Armchair Expert.

Someone who claims to know all the answers to a problem, situation or scenario but has little or no experience or real understanding of it. Usually found on internet forums or writing in the letters section of tabloid newspapers. When faced with educated people who disassemble their argument with facts, they often state they learned their experience at the "University of life".

What? Confused

And yes, the electric current is denoted by the letter I. Why? Ask Georg Ohm, or whoever decided that.

They've already been asked why there's going to be more current without higher voltage, but answer there was none.
