Except they're in the UK with a UK VAT number? Rolling Eyes

The full company details are on the listing.

Look at the state of that! Have you ever cleaned and lubed it at all in the 3k or just left it up to the Scottoiler? Even a proper DID will struggle with that lack of care.

Doesn't look fake from the listing IMO, the one you've bought to replace it would also seem to be of a higher spec.

DID just like any other decent chain maker do a variety of chain specs at a variety of price points.

scottoiler is on 6 24/7 but i lube it by hand every 120 miles or so, this was after sitting for 2 days and been oiled about 40 miles prior to this

Are you sure that was oiled 40 miles previous to the photo being taken? That's as dry as a bone, and that's got nothing to do with the chain manufacturer !!

Where would you be expecting to see seals? Rollers tend to be metal.

Have you ever cleaned it, or is just a case of more lube on over the top of old lube and filth?

My DID chains get fuck all maintenance, adjusted when I change tyres or pads and I leave it to the scottoiler the rest of the time. I still get 30k out of them.

OFFS.... Either your scottoiler is not working or the oil you are using is useless...

A scottoiler on 6 would leave your back wheel blathered in shit.....

Which nicely brings us to the content of the OP.... Laughing

I had a DID chain and new sprocket fitted last year at FWR so I presume its not fake. What I can say is that this chain would turn to rust if you cry on it. Never before have I had to clean rust off my chain every time I clean the bike. All my other chains have not had a problem but this one is a pile of poo.

I also have a scottoiler and tried turning it up after cleaning the chain the first time to see if it would help but still after one week it looked like shit. I thought it was just me but after seeing this post I will have to investigate further. It does not seem to need adjusting much it just seems to turn brown at a sniff of salt.

What're those goldy lookin chains - the ones that seem to have brass side plates? I had one branded Iris iirc - it lasted forever. It must just be a thin brass coloured plating, right? But I swear this particularly one still looked v. good after 30k miles. I do tend to clean/EP90 chains a few times a week though - and this was on me 500 so the main stand made that job less than a minute's work.

I have been buying my DID chains from https://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/ for many years now, together with new Renthal sprockets.I have these on all of my bikes now Thumbs Up Smile Thumbs Up

Last year, before I rode the FJ1200 around France,I fitted a new chain as well as sprockets. All that I did over the next 2,800 miles was to lube the chain.

I do feel that to buy something that says DID off fleebay is not a guarantee of a genuine article, hence why I buy from a more respected source.

ended up canceling the order anyway and bought a new did from hunters motorcycles in newcastle...

they only have a 110 link so had to cut 8 links out for me but im sure the monkeys only cut like 6 out because the new chain fitted left my adjusters over half way out

I was looking at the below picture and some things strike me.

The outlet of the scottoiler should be on the rear sprocket just above the chain at the 7pm position which should leave a trace from the nib on the sprocket, there isn't a trace.
You can also see the back of the inside plates of the chain, again no oil on them.
If the outlet is correctly positioned there should be oil around the outside of the sprocket, there isn't any.

I don't think the Scottoiler is fitted correctly.

Was the chain advertised as a racing chain by any chance?

I think you have been supplied with a 520 chain (often marked as a 50) without seals, commonly used on race bikes due to the lower mass being easier to accelerate and seals sapping power whereas your bike assuming it is the VTR1000 usually uses a 530 o ring chain.
To put this into perspective a BROS400 uses a 525 chain and that only has 37bhp or so. The chain you have is massively underspecced as it isn't meant to be used on the road, its a 3 race throwaway chain.

the scottoiler tube was a little short it sits on the sprocket closest to the front just out of shot, it had been on the paddock stand prior to this so it did get moved, it was pretty pikey on there anyway

So you bought an underspecced chain meant for race bike use on tracks and have a scottoiler that doesn't actually put the oil on the chain.
Not a fake chain then.

Yes, however what I'm saying is it rather depends if which DID chain you're buying? A high spec one, or a budget one? Just because it has DID written on it doesn't mean it'll be right for your application.

https://www.didchain.com/chainSpecs.html

Notice that there are two different types of 530 chain. I bet one will last better than the other. Two different 525 and a whole host of 520 options.

Nah, he was going there, but his chain snapped on the way.
