After deciding to do some spring cleaning i't's ocurred to me I have three spare Kawasaki KLE500 engines lying around from my old bike. All of these have flaws in one respect or another that would prevent them being re-used whole in another KLE (1x cracked block, 2x fricked output shaft on the gearbox of which one has had a sprocket Bodyguarded on by a previous owner).

Question I have is, what's the best way to get rid of these old blocks? They're all fairly rough but likely have good useable parts like cams, pistons etc, however they're for a KLE which has a total ownership rate in the low triple digits in this country (although some bits could fit the ER5 I think).

Basically I could probably get scrap value for the metal weight but that would involve me getting them to a scrapyard, and I don't own a car. Breaking them for parts could probably net more money but would take aeons considering the low parts demand... Are these my only options?

Sell parts on eBay, easy money. Worldwide shipping for much larger market.

Some sort of dodgy Top Gear coffee table perhaps? Use two, one at each end with the exhaust ports facing outward.

+20 minutes of dicking around with ID and setting up an account, then you'll be given a cheque for 72p.

I'd eBay (and expect to be dicked around) or offer free to anyone who wants to uplift via Gumtree or local Failbook groups (and expect to...).

Donate them to the motor vehicle studies department at your local secondary school? Give the young budding mechanics something to take apart.

Have there actually been any of those since 1985?

Local college more likely. But I suspect that would be your best route.

Ebay, 99p, no reserve but DO offer shipping. Find a robust enough box for it to fit in and get some quotes to courier it based on the weight and dimensions of said box. Double/triple bag them to avoid leakage.

People are lazy and will buy shit for way more than it's worth if it will be delivered.

DO remember to add the usual disclaimers about shipping to Highlands, Islands and Northern Ireland. I once got humped on shipping because someone from Northern Ireland bought my item and I'd quoted shipping to UK.

^^^^I'd go with that, but use one on each corner of a triangular table, for added quirkiness.

Strip them for all the saleable bits (cranks, cams etc) which will save weight, then build up the empty cases into bespoke furniture.

Talking point at parties, plus easier packaged money in the bank, when the bits sell.

Tie engine to chav’s neck and push chav into deep lake. Thumbs Up
You get rid of two pieces of rubbish and have fun at the same time Thumbs Up

Not very environmentally friendly, but hey ho!

Build one good engine out of the three!
Scrap the leftover bits or sell them on ebay!

I've sold engines on ebay. Two lots.

2 NSU quickly engines

1 Velocette engine

The NSU ones were beyond rough, rusty looking, water poured out of them when I salvaged them (house and grounds clearance) looked like bits were missing, made this crystal clear in the ad, and lots of pics. Got over fifty quid for them. Bloke drove straight over from Wales to pick them up almost as soon as the auction ended.

can't remember what I got for the Velocette, but it was less.

Hmm... sell the best one, break the second best one for parts and turn the third best into a table, got it.

I'll find something else to weigh the chav down with.

Put them in the wheelie bin, one each week so you don't make it too heavy - sorted.
