Loving this thread.

Been 30 years or so since I last had the joys of a lathe. Crying or Very sad

Yep got dro's on the mills (not on the (good) lathes though), so been touching on then setting the readout and working to that.

So I stopped working on this until about September when I had a sudden determination to get it finished for Christmas.

Unfortunately I didn't stop to take pictures, but here's a video of it working:

Thinking about it I do have a couple of pictures, I'll pop them up when I get a moment. Nothing as in depth as I'd originally planned mind.

I am tempted to make a little steam car, but I'll make a new engine if I do.

It'd be really cool to make a steam powered rc car, just a small battery for steering power.

That would be awesome. What would you use as a heat source to produce the steam?

A little spirit burner would do it just fine.

I got away with a camp stove (this one) for the one I just did, but it needs topping up a few times before you get decent steam pressure. It's a pretty inefficient boiler on that though, with no cross pipes at all, and not enough draught (hence the flame coming out at the bottom).

I've not put much/any thought into the car idea, but I think a horizontal boiler would be the better option, steam train style. Maybe a spirit reservoir towards the back of the car where the driver would normally sit, with the whole thing looking a tiny bit reminiscent of a 50s f1 car.

I do have some tiny bevel gearsets kicking around so I could possibly do a v-twin Oscillator or something, placed in the middle of the car with a belt through the middle and a driveshaft to the back wheels. Thinking

Really just thinking it through at the moment, you can see how long the last one took to come to fruition Laughing
