Hi, has anyone got any tips for installing R & G heated grips. I'm having problems with the grip throttle side as the inside of it is made of plastic similar to a throttle tube with the rubber grip on the outside. It's basically a case trying to stick a plastic tube onto a plastic tube. The rental grip glue supplied with it seems to break down quickly causing the grip to come loose. I don't really want to use super glue as I'm not sure I will get it on and lined up properly before it's set. I also doubt the spray paint or hairspray techniques will work.

Am I being thick or is this a crap design. I've never had problems with grips coming loose before

Done this a few times:

- Sand off any adhesive left on the throttle tube
- Heat up the grip using a hair dryer
- Put some fairy liquid onto the throttle tube
- Slide it on
- Move the grip back a couple of inches and wipe off the fairy liquid
- Apply some superglue (not the stuff that comes with those grips, it's crap) loctite is good
- Slide it over the glued throttle tube
- Leave it a couple of hours to set

If you still can't get it on after sanding off the adhesive, keep sanding the throttle tube down until it goes on.

I've also done this a few times.

I remove the old grip and clean off the old crap with brake cleaner.

Once the pipe is clean, I wrap the pipe with tape, insulating tape or
whatever I have handy. Heat the grip and with a little brake cleaner
the grip will go on but it should be a tight fit so tapping with a rubber
mallet will help...

Job done...

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm familiar with the techniques you describe. The problem I have is with the throttle side grip of the R & G heated grips. The inside of the grip is a thin plastic tube that has the heating element wrapped around the outside with a rubber grip on top of that. It's not like putting a normal rubber grip onto the throttle tube. The fit is very loose, too loose for my liking.

I fitted a set of R&G grips to my ZZR. The left grip was was so tight
I had to drive it on with a hammer and block of wood.

The RH grip was slightly too big. I used a small amount of
Unibond 100% Power waterproof glue to fix it in place.
The bond failed after two years.

I used more glue for the second attempt, enough to ensure
that the entire surface of the tube was coated. This is still
solid after three years of use.

Ihave just fitted these myself to my ZX6, and had the same issue. a mate gave me some grip glue to secure it as it was very loose as you said. I took it out for a spin the next day but i must have got 200 yards from home and the fker came loose again so i had to abort and get home.

I plastered it with the glue and left it for a week, done about 80 miles yesterday and it has been fine Thumbs Up
