You didn't mention the bulb was alright, try a different bulb. Not likely to be the issue, but hey, why not to try. Also check the plug for corrosion/oxidation (green/white stuff).

Now we're getting somewhere. What type of charging system does your motorcycle have? Could it be that one phase of the alternator powers up the lights?
