I have the following categories on my licence
A and AM
What bike can I buy now and ride, I have had my licence since 1995

When did you take a bike test ?
And does the a category have a (79) RESTRICTION next to it.

It means you is not gonna be ridin any thin bigger than 50cc or faster than 28mph ... enjoy..

PS.. if you get caught on owt bigger plod will crush it ..

He's actually right. It appears that you've not done a bike test (have you?), so are limited to a moped (50cc, AM)- but you still need to do a CBT for that IIRC. Alternatively, you can ride a trike (the 79 code) as you have an older car license. You cannot ride a bike - unless you do a CBT and ride a 125 on L plates.

To ride a bigger bike you need to do a CBT, pass the bike theory, then take a DAS (Direct Access) test.

Because you got a car license before 2001, you can ride a moped up to 50cc and about 30mph without L plates

If you want to ride an actual motorcycle, you'll need to do at least a CBT, then pass tests to ride anything bigger than a 125.
