IT 4/10 - the main problem with this film is it has one of the kids from Stranger Things, which's a constant reminder of how much better ST is. IT doesn't seem to know what it wants to be, a horror film one minute, then Stand By Me, then The Inbetweeners with dialogue not really befitting a bunch of 13yr olds Thinking The acting as a whole was poor, again another thing ST did better.

Oh and don't watch it if you're scared of clowns.

I flew almost non stop to Christhcurch, pausing only to change planes at Singapore. Went business class (I wasn't paying) and I was so into a sci-fi film, layed out in my bed/seat with my headphones on, I genuinely didn't notice the turbulence, there was all sorts of explosions and shootings on the screen, and it was only when they cut over the audio with a warning about turbulence I noticed it Laughing

The Cloverfield Paradox - New on Netflix

7/10

I'm not sure what happened but I liked it. Chris O'Dowd's arm steals the show.

It's a busy old mess, like they were determined to throw in references to / steal from everything. Still sort of worked for me.

Many shouts of GRAVITY DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY!, but perfectly watchable if you set your expectations to TV quality and techno-babble. IMDB 5.8 / RT audience 52% is about right, although the reviews giving it a thorough 16% critic shoeing aren't exactly wrong either.

Highlights were the black woman working the space phone Clapping, and Mr Space Phone Operator having the smallest ears... in the world. Really, once seen, you can never unsee.

My wife really hates me for doing that yet I won't stop until film and tv makers stop putting in such ridiculous mistakes.

We were watching the Shooter series on Netflix recently, and she virtually kicked me out of the room for pointing out that thermal cameras can't see people through windows or walls. Apparently, because "it happens in all sorts of films and television" it must be true and therefore I am talking shit - despite me using thermal imaging at work.

Into the Wild 8/10

I really liked it, not to the same extent of course, but it reminded me of my younger self, I'd often just wander off and hitchhike about, and do stuff, and meet random people as I hitched to some place or walked cross country to somewhere else, and had about a gazillion different jobs

obviously, in the UK you would have to make an extraordinary effort to get well and truly stuffed in "the wilds" unlike the USA which could easily bite you hard I guess, and you'd never be more than a long walk back form anywhere.

Even so, I liked it and it reminded me of younger me. Thumbs Up

Room 4.5/10 A woman gets abducted and has a child with her kidnapper, and then some stuff happens which I can't really reveal without ruining the movie. What I will say is it isn't a graphic/gruesome film (despite the subject matter), and the kid puts in a really good performance. A good movie, just not great or particularly memorable.

Radio times, or was it the I newspaper? Forget now, recommended it, didn't look like my cup of tea though, so I gave it a swerve.

Its definitely worth a watch, as above it not great and not something i'd watch twice.

Salyut 7 5/10 loosely based on the real story of two Russian cosmonauts who docked with and revived a dead space station. It's kinda like Gravity but with Russian patriotism, with good performances from I can gather (it's subtitles), and some really good visual effects which no doubt someone on here will tear apart Very Happy

I'd rate it a lot higher if they'd kept the story more 'real' and dialed down the propaganda. There was also a fairly nasty dig at NASA/the Challenger accident.

EDIT: one odd thing, Amazon split the film (2hrs long) into two parts. It's strange as Hollywood seems to put out nothing but 2hr yawn fests Confused

It's a mediocre 6/10 from me - O'Dowd was the best plot device, it was entertaining enough not to annoy, and I purposefully overlooked the instant freeze water & microgravity thing (thanks for the heads up Borg) - which is quite rare for me.

Writers are just making shit up these days without doing basic research or taking technical advice Neutral

I think Moon (9/10) was the best scifi flick of the past 10 years or so.

Sex Tape

Quite possibly the worst film ever, Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel make a sex tape and it gets uploaded to 'the cloud' and then all the devices they gave as Christmas presents get synced to the video. Rest of film is the couple attempting to retrieve (steal) the devices back. Utter garbage. 0.5/10.

A quick scan lead me to believe David Cameron and Jason Statham had made a porn film together. I mean, who in their right mind would want to see Jason Statham naked? Sick

The Cloverfield Paradox 4/10 - an attempt to tie-in three very different Cloverfield films. Even as a stand-alone Sci-Fi film it was shit, and had a very Netflix narrative <bnp72 mode> the black people were the heroes and the blue eyed blonde devils the villains Rolling Eyes

I, Tonya 5.5/10 - a story I knew nothing about, told in an engaging way (from multiple viewpoints), and set to a good soundtrack. I'd rate it higher but it's a 2hr movie about figure skating, although Margot Robbie starring helped Wub, even when dressed up as white trash.

I remember reading about this back in the day. Ice skating saga. Tonya's husband clattered Tonya's main rivals knee (baseball bat iirc) forcing her to withdraw from the competition. Tonya got found guilty of her part as well iirc. Can't say I'd want to watch a film about it though.

Don't ruin the story Very Happy It was told in an entertaining way, a bit like Wolf of Wall Street how characters would occasionally break character and speak to the camera.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Sleeping/10 - I've genuinely no idea how I made it through this banal tripe. Whilst The Force Awakens was a pleasant surprise, this is what I expected of a Disney Star Wars movie. Cheap family laughs, nods to what felt like nothing more than moar merchandising opportunities. Apparently J. J. Abrams will be back directing the next film, not sure if I'll bother.

Pitch Perfect 3 Embarassed/10 - much like the other films, surprisingly good musical pieces, some genuinely funny moments, and a few cringe-worthy bits as well. Probably not as good as the first two films, the ratings seem to back this up although they're often 'wrong' Smile, but Hollywood always needs to have their trilogy.

I guess that's the problem, when you repeat the same thing multiple times without changing a great deal, it's obviously not going to seem as fresh (although The Hangover managed it).

Colossal 3.5/10 - a surprisingly hot looking Anne Hathaway realises she's causing a creature to appear in South Korea. Except that isn't what the film's really about, it's a dark romcom. Except it isn't really that either, it's more a metaphor.

The film only had a 15 million dollah budget and didn't even make a third of that back. Tells you all you need to know really.

Scott Pilgrim

Seen it before, wanted to watch it again cos I've started reading the comics again. Brilliant. Cinematography, soundtrack, actors, story, script. Edgar Wright is a brilliant man, and it is a travesty that this film didn't do better at the box office. 9/10

50 shades

Cinema date night, mrs' choice. Divorce is now pending. -10/10

War on Everyone

I missed this at the cinema, so found it out to watch it. Really good film. Funny, dark, and well shot. Two dodgy cops find out about a planned robbery and decide to blackmail the bad(der) guys. Worth a watch. 8/10

Get Him To The Greek

Again, one I've seen before but wanted to see it again. really funny follow on to Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and as much as I dislike Russell Brand, he makes this film brilliant. Well worth a watch. 8/10

I thought Brand was there to make everyone else look funny? Eh? P Diddly was probably the funniest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvqLF9ejADE Laughing

Borg McEnroe 4/10 - tennis film (obviously) that had potential but ended up being fairly boring.
