A few friends ride only sportbikes and have often wondered why, when I talk about getting sideways on the dirtbikes, what it would be like to have a go.So when the opportunity to ride some brand new offroad 2014 Kawasakis around at the Mick Extance Offroad Experience up in Wales for a very reasonable amount, seven of us jumped at the chance.
They supply everything, including all of the gear and food/drink during the day. There was a choice of new KX250F,KLX450R and KLX250R.For those with little or no dirtbiking experience they also supply a 125 or 65cc bikes and gave a young lad a one-to-one with Alex Extance. They also do ladies only days,as well as three days of riding around Morocco for those who want to know what it was like when Mick Extance was riding in the Dakar a few years ago.

Saturday morning was dry and bright and after breakfast in the local village we headed up to the venue where the bikes were all lined up neatly, looking pristine in the sunshine. These bikes had not turned a wheel in anger...but that was soon to change Twisted Evil

The other ten people donned their gear, which had been selected from a large van full of dirtbiking apparel.I had my own gear that I normally ride the KTM wearing,so had no fitting problems and soon we were introduced to the bikes. There were far more of the 450 enduro bikes and soon the engines were being warmed up.The motocross KX250F have fuel injection, but the 450s are all carbed,so chokes had to used initially and for when the bikes had been left during the lunch break.

What follows are a few pics of our day of following Mick around the Welsh countryside, showing us how to attack steep ascents and descents, how to ride difficult terrain and how to have fun doing it all.We stopped for lunch back at the venue and then rode out again, for three sessions in total. There were some ups...and quite a few downs.Everyone had an off as did I.No one is perfect Wink

Unfortunately, one of the Brummie lads took a header over the bars on some deep mud and landed on his side, which knocked the wind out of him for a while. He took quite a bit of stick about the mud pack on his face and how it would improve his complexion etc and it was all in jest and he was soon back on the bike and on his way again Laughing

But the weather changed abruptly and so we headed back from the highest part of the mountains where we were, just as the rain came down even heavier.A hot shower and a rest before food and drink were consumed while listening to a live band in the pub where we were all staying.Unfortunately, the bar did not close until about 3.30am which kept me awake, whereas the others were all sound asleep.

Was it worth it? Thumbs Up Very Happy Thumbs Up

This looks pretty good. What sort of ride time do you get as the itinerary only gives the start time?

We normally do the Yamaha off road day just up the road for £200 and have been 5 times now. You ride from about 10am to 4pm and to be honest that's enough.

Would be tempted to give this one a go too for a change Very Happy
