Thanks to all for the comments. It was a very sad thing to see my bike being dragged up onto the back of a recovery truck - on its side. They delivered the wreckage the next day before the insurance assessor arrived to write the bike off as too severely fire damaged. But,despite the cable lock, the wreck disappeared Wink never to be seen again.

jeez, I miss that bike just from reading this.
THanks for sharing it with us, this kinda stuff that makes motorcycling so interesting and so much fun. I was checking this thread every day hoping you'd put more stuff up, great pics, great bike and a great, but sad, story.

Thanks! Thumbs Up

Nice how someone saw a future for that burnt-out wreck, no wonder you locked it up and took photos of it Rolling Eyes

Haven't really read a show and tell thread all the way though fully until now. Great write up with an amazing poor bike kinda feel sorry for it.

Also weird how the old photographs look a lot better than the clearer new photos, they kinda give more atmosphere.

I reckon that with all of the big holes that I drilled in various parts and bits and pieces I made of lightweight materials I must have knocked off at least 30lbs,if not more. The wheels were made especially to my requirements and machined slightly lighter than standard.I am sure that there was some magnesium in the mix of the back wheel the way that the bike burned in the fire Shocked

What i really love about this thread is the relationship you had with your bike. When you wanted something better, you didnt shop it in, you'd just change/modify it. It clearly became a completely unique example, a real one-off.

I hope I have similar relationship with my VFR, but obviously without any of the skill/dedication/talent...

Well. As a newbie round here I'd never even seen or heard of that thread till you resurrected it just now. Started reading from the beginning, and was very much enjoying it until about 20 posts in, which evidently coincided with you discovering the dubious joys of Photobucket.

Phukking Photobucket.

I can see the images. Does that mean you've done some URL conversion, or hosting somewhere else, or paid photobucket, or something else?

Just curious as I "lost" 5 years worth of stuff. But recently have been able to link again, but haven't checked old posts.

Suntan Sid had found a way of modifying the upload link and if you look at what I have done then it is easy to add the '~original' bit to the link Thumbs Up Very Happy Thumbs Up

Glad Photofucket made you resurrect this thread Smile

I like the Jota bars. My brother tried them on his Z650F2 in 1981 - I was working as a Saturday lad at D&A Rayner motorcycles, a Laverda dealer among other makes, so I got them for him cheap. Unfortunately, they weren't wide enough at the mountings or something, so they went back. He also had a 2/4 seat on it, Laser 4-into-1 and S&B filters, along with bits by Goodridge, S&W, Dresda etc, so your project is very interesting to me. Considerably more involved with the chassis mods and tuning though!

Anyway, enjoyed the read, and having an excuse to dig out the rose tints for a bit, lol. Thank you!

Ditto. Phuckers.

I get their desire for some ROI, but couldn’t they just have done this for new material, moving forward? 😡
