Wondering if any could help with a problem am having with a 07 plate er6-f.

I have fit 2 new battery in the space of a year, I have checked the batterys and found out that the batterys have no acid in them. I have topped them up with some more distilled water and put it on a slow charge.

Anyway managed to get the bike started again and checked the charging rate its at 15 volts, Now I know that is too much and should be about 13-14 volts. Should these bike run at this? Or could it be another problem?

Thanks

Sounds like your Rectifier/Regulator has 'thrown the towel in', it's not regulating and the battery is being boiled !.

How have you checked, they use a YTX9 or 12-BS battery which is sealed?

A lot of bikes use 'AGM' batteries these days (Absorbed glass mat) which have no 'acid' in as such. But it does sound like your regulator rectifier is on the blink.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Should be charging at 14.5v - no more, so it does sound as if your RR has been slowly frying the batteries. I know +0.5 v doesn't sound much but over an extended period it's definately enough to knacker a fresh battery.

Marjay worked it out. Once you fill them the glass matt absorbs and holds the acid.

It may be an old wet cell battery but may not which is why its relevant. The Reg/Rec on the ER-6 lasts at most 40k na d generally fails within 10k. It is a service item.
