The whole idea of doing anything that can be called addictive is the high you get, whether it be gambling, drugs, booze, thrill seeking, shopping, etc.
The problem is there is always a low side to it (which makes the high even better when it happens). The depression when things don't work out. When you come off the drugs, when your credit card bill comes in after a shopping spree and when your banker bets fail.
They say admitting you have a problem is the first thing you have to do to get it under control and you seem the have done that and taken steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.
From someone who used to drink very heavily and (try to) hide it from my wife I would say (presuming you are in a relationship) tell her what you have done and what you are doing to stop it. Get her onside.
If she finds out you have lost a shitload of money herself she is going to be much less sympathetic than if you talk to her.
If you can stop gambling now then you haven't really got a problem (except being shit at football predictions). If you find yourself betting again, gamblers anonymous or whatever that organisation is called should be your next port of call.
Just to make you feel better, I know someone who lost over £30,000 in casinos over a short period of time!
Here endeth the sanctimonious ravings of an ex semi alcoholic. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

I feel guilty if I bet more than £2.50
Only lost about £20 in 2 years though so meh. I don't bet for the money, it just makes watching it slightly more entertaining, maybe treat it that way rather than about money? ____________________ DRZ400-SM

Football has been broken recently.
Stop chasing losses, you should only be staking a small percentage of your total pot. That is the way of the squirrel.

How good can you be at gambling?
I used to work with a guy who was the best fruit machine player I have ever known, I mean this bloke was a genius - we used to go out and play snooker after work, then our wives would come and meet us and, after a couple of drinks in the bar, he would win enough money to cover our meal for four.
All very good, but he was trying to wean himself off the machines, finding himself £52K in debt as a result of playing them obsessively; to put that into context, I had just bought a three bed house for £53K.
Similarly, I know another guy who is into gambling - when I say into, he's written books about it, advised governments on it and regularly appears on TV talking about it, he's what would be considered to be an expert.
His speciality is dog racing - he owns them, studies the form religiously and knows exactly how the game works. He reckons he just about breaks even most years, but he would've been in proper trouble, had his wife not died and left him a shittonne of money in the form of insurance and a transferable full salary pension (having said that, I haven't seen him for a couple of years, he might've pissed it all away by now).
The bottom line is, gambling is a losing game, so don't gamble more than you can afford to lose. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

If the average man could ultimately win at gambling there'd be no betting shops/websites. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Chickenfeed. My mum's the spieler in our family. Blew away over a million NZ dollars* (and that's the money I know about, god only knows what else she managed to get her sticky little mitts on ) - mostly on poker machines and horses, over the course of what I've estimated to be about 5 years. No, your life choices have been extremely bad. Stop blaming luck and either get a grip, knock it on the head or seek help.
You've got to be in it to lose it.
I had a mate who almost destroyed his life through blaming bad luck for his betting habit. It started off with too much time and money spent on the fruit machine in the pub, then moved on to sports betting. He never admitted losing more than he won.
Move on a couple of years and his house was repossessed, he then lost his job as a retail manger for dipping into the till.
At his lowest, he was delivering leaflets door to door to earn money. I still caught him going into the bookies. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

I think OP is bodytard. Quite a coincidence he should pop up in post 2 with one of his 'remarks' to throw us all off
the scent. Despite his well documented regular losses at the bookies. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

I do wonder how so many on line bookies keep going. On some tv channels thats all that are advertised later at night, online casinos and bookies. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |
