I'm working through recommissioning some of the bikes I've had sat in the garage for years. The current project is a '94 YZF750R in Cadbury's Boost Colours.
One of the things I needed to attend to is the in tank fuel pump. I hear nothing on ignition on to suggest the pump is running, so I took it out to test. The pump looks shafted and won't spin up, so as Yamaha have stopped supplying them and working second hand units are like rocking horse, I ended up buying a near identical aftermarket replacement pump from Poland, to fit to the pump assembly I've removed.
The only difference is the connector terminals are larger spade connectors than the original. It's this part I can't get my head around.
How is it OK to leave bare metal electrical terminals submerged in fuel?
Is fuel not conductive? Would there not be a risk of a spark? The old genuine pump's terminals were exposed, so it should be OK, it just doesn't feel right, if you know what I mean?
Anyone know why this isn't a risk of shorting out?
This is what the whole assembly looks like. The pump is the tall round tube with the wires connected at the top.

I bought an aftermarket pump like this...

Thanks.
As the original pump had bare terminals, I kind of thought so.
It just bugged me because it set alarm bells ringing, so I was kind of looking for someone to back it up. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.
