The XJR1300 also has the advantage of a very long serving aircooled engine with no real flaws. The motor is the old Fj1100/1200 motor from the early 80s.

Once you get used ti it, if you fit inlet rubbers from the fj1200, you get another 10-20hp for very cheap.

So I ended up getting a 2008 CBF1000, the ABS model.
I was being tempted by thoughts of a Fazer FZS1000 or Bandit 1250, but the Honda was less than 5 minutes walk from my house and the test ride left me more than happy.
That engine is lovely and smooth and I'm loving the effortless power. I'm not used to this amount of pick-up, even at low revs in 4th or 5th. Not a lot of noise from the exhausts so this may be something that I'll rectify at some point Smile. This was accentuated when a couple of very fat Suzuki Intruders came alongside me while filtering through traffic this afternoon.. Jeez that's some sound they produce!

Thanks for everyone's advice, suggestions and help - it's completely changed my outlook. I would have ended up with a 600 and I'm sure I'd have been happy with that, but this has taken me into totally new territory, and I like it!!
Thumbs Up

Oh that is good news, finding a bike so local was very lucky. Enjoy the CBF. Cool

I believe I called it first Very Happy

I'd be interested to hear what you think of it, specifically it's handling in the twisties and less well surfaced roads. I'm tempted to pick one up as an interim change from my er6 until I've got the cash saved for a tracer.

Yeah I'll try and comment as it gets more use. So far I find the CBF1000 light and accurate in the turns and very easy to ride. I've not taken it on anything demanding yet but I'm looking forward to doing so.. so far it's been pretty confidence-inspiring. It came with Bridgestone BT-023 tyres which feel good and seem to generally come with good reviews - certainly better than the BT-57s that were supplied on the earlier models and appear to not be universally liked.
So far my only 'complaint' is that the wind noise in my helmet is louder than the engine Smile.
Thanks for the suggestion - it's what first got me thinking of this bike.

All the Fazers seem to be in Preston and Blackpool - wasn't planning on visiting this locale for.. well.. ever Smile
Cheers - enjoying the bike so far.
