Bit of a fucked up film in subject and characters. Was a few laugh out loud moments in it too. Frances McDormand just won an oscar for her role in this ( as well as Rockwell for best supporting actor ) and the last one she won was for Fargo 20 odd years ago... which this kind of reminded me of Fargo a little bit with the odd characters.

And made the real slim shady please stand up, I assume for damage limitation after missing the dress code at the BAFTAs. There was apparently a backlash over Sam Rockwell's character, that a racist wasn't immediately ostracised.

I thought it was a clumsy attempt at social commentary, that lost its way and failed to form any real conclusions. The dialogue was good but Fargo* (the TV series) has much better characters.

*the film was a bit naff IMO.

Murder of Couriers 8/10

It is a documentary about bicycle couriers, I'm guessing "murder" is being used as a collective noun.

I really liked it. I wouldn't want to do what they do, but I felt that I got where they were coming from, and some of the stupid things they did in their down time - I should imagine is very similar to what many of us do or have done as motorcyclists.

The only criticism I'd have of it, is that I think it was coming at their lifestyle from a certain angle determined to show it as a mostly positive experience. It didn't rain much, we saw all the characters, we heard about "regular guys" who just get paid, and go to bed early, but we didn't see them.

Still, I liked it a lot.

Fair enough,

The Evil Dead 8/10
Sam Raimi's practical effects are legendary and Bruce Campbell did a great job. It was the very first time I saw Bruce Campbell in a film and this lad is just cool. He's very likeable. Also, if you compare him to all the action film characters of the 80's, he unlike many had and still has his own style. There's something fresh about a hero such as Ash/Bruce.

Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn 8.5/10
One word: ''Groovy''

Army of Darkness - 9/10
My all time favourite Evil Dead film. The production quality of this film, all the stop-motion stuff and the comedy bits were just perfect. Yes, the film didn't really make any sense, but it doesn't matter that much. This was Sam Raimi's Evil Dead masterpiece. He had a lot of experience and for the first time he had a bit more money to put more of his ideas into the film.

Evil Dead (2013) - 5/10
A remake? All the comedy was gone. You could tell Sam Raimi did not direct it. It was a pretty generic slasher movie trying to milk the original film/s.

I saw Evil Dead 2 first, and I was about 14 or 15, which is probably the bestt age to get that perfect roller coaster of fear and hilarity. Watched it my friend, who got his mum to rent it for us. Laughing

I also have very fond memories of a load of us watching Amityville Horror, not so much for the film but all of the goofing around, and wisecracking, running commetary/jokes. Even if I did have to watch it again on my own afterwards to see it.

I've seen all sorts of films when I was ''too young'' by today's standards. The Tv in Czech rep. in the 90's and early 2000's was full of classic horror/comedy films + I had a VHS rental store right next to my house and people there didn't really care for the PG rating. The only 18+ only tapes were porn.

Me and my mates loved South park, we were maybe 10-11? We did call each other uncle fecker for a while. Razz

And I still remember being at my grand parents house about 12 years old, watching with my grand father the I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle (1990) on Tv at 10pm. The scene with the talking crap in the toilet was just hilarious. Also, completely incidentally, my very first motorcycle was a GPz550 which was the bike, that the main character had. Well, before he got the blood sucking Norton. Smile

Seven Psychopaths.

Pretty funny for a Yank movie. I liked it. 8/10. Good cast too, but Christopher Walken looks more and more like an old lady to me.

Those were the days when you were free to be emotionally scarred, not like today when they're censoring literally everything (even Simpsons episodes).

Hampstead 3/10 - loosely based on a guy who was tramping it up on Hampstead Heath. It had a few humorous moments, and the tramp guy was a good character, it's just the film mainly focused on an annoying (fictional) American woman, and was pretty cringeworthy at times. I'm actually surprised I finished the film.

Downsizing 3/10 Confused

It started good, the trailer made the whole film look like a good laugh. But well, let's say the first 1/3 was genuinely good, the second third was SPOILER: Matt Damon was going to get downsized with his wife, but she couldn't do it. He went through the whole procedure of downsizing and then his wife called him to tell him, well honey I didn't do it, good luck and divorced him later on, so Matt was trying to find himself again. Not happy in his work etc. .
The last third was,... I don't even know what to say.

The cast was good and I really expected this to be a comedy. I mean Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig always do funny bits in every film they are in. Not in this one though. It was a romantic/drama/good samaritan kind of film.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 7/10

This was actually a nice surprise. I had very low expectations when they announced the film.

The cast was perfect. Dwayne Johnson did a great job, he always does (well, the Mummy films and Doom were both crap), Kevin Hart is also a good comedy character. Jack Black didn't get much space and I think it was a shame and Karen Gillan is very nice to look at.

IF I get over the ''classic'' Hollywood bending of rules and continuity, plus the stupid plot, it was a good film with a lot of laughable moments.

Not really a film for the original Jumanji fans, but also no that bad that you wouldn't enjoy it. I'm still not sure about the target audience though.

Yep I was pleasantly surprised, I almost didn't watch it assuming Hollywood would f**k up another 'classic' film franchise.

Peter Rabbit: 7/10

I'd rate it higher because it was actually a good watch, the kind I'd happily watch again at some point.

BUT, and this is a huge but.

All this talk of social justice, diversity etc in movies, with a lot of unnecessary hot air in many areas.... but I bet there won't be a peep of complaint over the fact this this film, set in northwest England, featured ONLY southern actors. Not a single local accent in the whole film. Not one!!!!

All The Presidents Men.

Never seen it, and a lot of interviews recently indicate that it would work well alongside The Post. I think that we will be watching that soon, so gave this a crack. it's a weird film to (sort of) review, because I didn't find it that easy to watch. It dragged and then ran, and then dragged again. Two leads did well. I watched it out of interest of the historical facts.

6.5/10

The Circle

Hermione goes to work for Woody from Toy Story. Big Internet company goes too far with invasions of privacy, and it felt a little bit like AntiTrust (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0218817/?ref_=nv_sr_1) meets the Social Network. I enjoyed it, but can't help but feel that had the film had an extra 20 minutes, they could have fleshed it out a little. Instead, the last third felt a little hollow and rushed. Not bad, apparently the book is better and has a different ending...

7/10

The Dead Land

Unsure what made me watch it apart from been bored. It has subtitles.

A bit of an odd ball film at best with some tongue poking out in a " I keel yooo" New Zealand style. Killing each other with table tennis bats was new to me.

The best bit was at the end where you could clearly see either a car or lorry driving past in the background when the film is suppose to be pre vroom vrooms.

The Outsider - 7/10

I like gangster films. When I saw that Jared Leto ( That lead singer of that band from mars ) was playing some outsider who weaves himself in to the Yakuza in Japan, I thought to myself, "This is either going to be really shit or really good"... it was the latter.

You can get gangster / crime based films so wrong that they mostly end up being a big bag of wank but this was pretty good. Sure it wasn't perfect but it was better than most of the modern crime / gangster films that come out these days.

Was kind of hoping for some inspiration and nods to "The Yakuza" from 1970's but didn't get any of that vibe.

The film felt authentic anyway, which is half the battle with this stuff. Thumbs Up

The Shape Of Water.

Went with the mrs and kid to see this. Highly recommend to anyone. It is a gorgeous film, and really engaging.
A mute woman develops a friendship and then more with an Amphibian creature in a lab, and breaks him out when they plan to kill it.
Add in a Russian / Cold War side arc, and an amazing soundtrack, and you've got a really enjoyable film.

Annihilation: 0/10

A Netflix movie, started off promising and the more it went on the less it engaged me , It got to the point where I would have turned it off but I had to keep watching because now and then there were a few icky bits and I wanted to see if it got better. Towards the end it got really shit.

Tomb Raider - 7/10

A paint by numbers action film, not bad nor great but I didn't have to look for how long was left either, that's always a plus. A few Cleavage shots, although they're not Angelina sized.

I saw this on Saturday, and I agree.

Battle Of The Sexes

Emma Stone and Steve Carrell play Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in a telling of the Battle of the Sexes tennis game from 1973. It was a little bit slower than I expected, but it was still a decent watch. At the end, when it shows you the original pictures and footage, it is insane how close Steve Carrell looks like Bobby Riggs.

7/10

Date Night

Looking for something for all the family to watch, me and the wife had seen it before and the boy seemed interested, and yeah. Solid low taxing film with some good turns and some good laughs.

7/10

The Little Hours

Retelling of an old story with Hollywoods young stars/starlets. And John C Reilly. Fucking awful. Absolutely toss. Don't bother.

-20 / 10

Zombieland

This, on the other hand, is how comedy should be done. Great script, Jesse Eisenberg is tolerable, Woody Harrelson is at his finest, Emma Stone is there. Bill Murray is there. Properly funny.

9/10
