Does anyone else do this? My head's mashed at the moment trying to get my Scoob insured so I can drive it to track days/ meets.

I currently have an everyday Merc C class 2006, my 1997 Scoob (heavily modded) and a 600RR.... Whats the best way to go about getting them insured?

The 7 years NCB i have is being used on the Merc currently (costing me about £400 a year. The bike I have 2 years NCB and its around £400 too. However when im coming to insure the Scoob its coming to £1200+.......

Are there places that do specialist three vehicle insurance? I mean the bike gets ridden only in fair weather, and same for the Scoob! i dont fancy paying another £150+ a month for a car im going to use once or twice....

I have two cars and 4 bikes. I have four insurance policies, and one of those is a multi-bike. Go figure.

I have separate comprehensive policies for each of my vehicles. So four policies in total. I spend just under 1k a year
on the lot combined and my van has to have trade insurance because of what it's used for. I used to do the Multicar thing
but got sick of Admiral taking the piss each renewal just to have to spend an hour on the phone getting them to alter it to
a sensible price. I'd rather shop around now.

Yep. Price quoted before my renewal was due £680. (Auto)renewal price £940. Best price over the phone £750. So my strategy is to let my policy expire and get a new quote from them... I'm currently blicked being in the renewal window Rolling Eyes

Hopefully my strategy will work Praying

Just make sure the Ins Co. Doesn't have your card details, watch out for the continuous insurance rule. In essence I don't think you need to sorn for a week or so of not having insurance, but I wouldn't leave it longer than that just to be safe.

To OP, can't help with the Merc/CBR but you could look at getting a single insurance company to do you quotes for both in turn for a policy discount maybe?

As for the Subaru, it's only a few years newer than my Rover, and I have always used a classic insurance policy for it which also often allows for loads of modifications to be taken into account. There's a few performance and import insurers that might help out with reasonable quotes too.

What I've found is that even specialist insurers have not techy people answering the phone who don't know what coilovers or a hybrid turbo are. What I do is get their email and send them the A4 page or so of spec or modifications, so they can go away and look it up before coming back to you with a price.

Different topic entirely, but theres always the question of what do you declare to them as a modification. I work on visible mods being worthy of declaration. So light weight flywheels, uprated clutch, forged pistons or aftermarket cams are not listed, but brakes suspension, and bigger radiators/ intercoolers and acres of silicone hosing under the bonnet are.

I've often wondered what the best way of doing it is also.

My Dad has a car and multiple bikes and insures all on one policy with Carole Nash.

I have 4 policies running:

Ducati/Vincent - social only (Footman James don't take no claims bonus)
CBR - social and commuting (16 years no claims)
XR - social and commuting (4 years no claims)
BMW (car) - social only (2 years no claims)

I believe I'm right in that you can build up different no claims discount on different policies.

Only area I'm not sure on is declaring a claim. I declare it on all even though it was on the Ducati (non fault) As insurance companies ask for any claim no matter who's fault so I declare on all?

OP. Try all the comparison sites for individual policies, then direct with them. Also go through Quidco. I've got £25 + 2.5% coming back to me on my car insurance.

For multi policy, might have to give a few places a call.

I have a multibike policy covering the Hornet and Thundercat.
And a seperate policy for my Fazer it worked out cheaper to insure it seperatly than add it to the multibike policy.

I have no idea how they come up with their prices.

Another good trick with cars is to add your partner/Mother onto a the policy as a named driver (assuming they have a clean record) as that tends to lower the premium

My Admiral insurance went from 600 to 800.

Fuck that I thought I'll look around, Sheilas Wheels £400, great.

I ring up Admiral to insure there is no auto renewal and was asked why I was leaving. I said your renewal was a pisstake and I have a new quote for half the money. The girl asked who with, I told her and she said "Oh we are the same company, give me your quote reference and I can put that through for you."

shop around for separate policies for each vehicle or shop around for a multi vehicle policy.

It may be cheaper or more expensive depends on your circumstances, years experience location occupation. Bla bla bla.

Speak to your fav broker for advice on what they offer.

Admiral sent me a borderline threatening letter about continuous insurance Rolling Eyes It'll only be a matter of days hopefully, I left a bike uninsured for a couple of weeks before (with a SORN) and didn't hear anything.

I have the old man on my insurance for this reason, another indication that Admiral were completely making up their prices was they reckoned my policy would be less without him on there (funny how comparison sites disagree). I also asked them to email me the price they quoted over the phone and they refused Rolling Eyes

Bennetts Auto insured my bike for me without asking.

I chined them for not informing me, they said they sent a letter. I said I have done all business via internet and email with them so why now resort to snail mail?

Not heard from them again.

Some other jokers offered me a policy for £270-ish for a bike policy.
I found a policy on a comparison-r-us site for half-ish that.

They said 'they were waiting on new prices coming in which was after my policy was due so they quoted higher prices but can give me a more competitive price now'.

'Oh you think you will?'

Not only are brokers loading policies, due to the 'new risks' they are also forgetting how we found the prices in the first place.

Maybe the law/regulations have to be changed to allow a tick box in the search engine to 'not auto renew'.
The current fiasco of having to read the policy to find their 'trick wording' and then write to them to tell them to not auto renew is a fucking scammery-fuck-shite.

now got one on each with over 9 years no claims protected Laughing Laughing as when I bought another bike they let me use it on the policy even though I already said I was using it on the car

bike is 70 quid and car just over 200 a year

I've found Adrian Flux to be competitive on price and fairly sensible when dealing with modified highly tuned cars.

As a guide my car has just under twice the power it left the factory with, and I'm paying £500 fully comp with max ncd. They let you add on more mods with little hassle.

Sky, greenlight, Chris nott are all other mod friendly insurers, one of them is track day specific iirc.
