This thread is technically NBR but lets not split hairs.

I've basically rounded a bolt head on my car and have tried various methods to remove it. Tried welding a nut onto the end but that also rounded.

So I'm wondering if there is a certain type of bolt that I could use, perhaps with better metal properties or alloy to prevent it rounding?

P.S - I used a partially rusted nut that was lying at the bottom of an old toolbox. Probably wasn't the best idea but that's all I had available at the time.

I would be looking at why it rounded rather than undid in the first place.

Is it a captive nut at the other side? Any reason why you can't just cut it off with a grinder?

Its a pincher bolt holding in front shock absorbers on an 15 year old Ford Mondeo.

I have 6 sided and 12 sided sockets and spanners.

Nothing holding it in from the other side.

Here is a tutorial on youtube. The bolt in question is at 2m12s in the video.

So, it's a bit like the actual rainpal demonstration video.
