Hi all

So my XR125, daily commuter, decided to die on Monday. Key in the ignition and nothing comes on, no neutral light, lights etc.

Already gone through the process of the normal:

Killswitch
Starter
Fuses
Bump start
In gear (Starting with clutch in too)
Side stand
New battery

Then my Dad helped with a multimeter. Power is getting everywhere and the old battery is even fine too. Led it back to the ignition barrel where that's where the problem is. Made a circuit without the barrel and the bike starts fine.

So the ignition barrel is the problem (Guessing it's full of crud or corroded from rain) I'm guessing it's knackered so a replacement is necessary.

I've only found one ignition barrel and key on eBay which is still attached to the yoke. So I'll have to remove this so I can just swap over (I have all the tools needed)

Does anyone know if the XR 125 shares the ignition with any other models at all? I'm struggling to find a part number too!

Thanks
Jeff

Part number 35100KRHD00

According to Fowlers this ignition only fits one bike

https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/view/35100KRHD00

A replacement will be £166....

I don't have any suggestions on diagnosing the problem sadly.

Replace with a different ignition. Mount elsewhere if it's just a runaround. My CLR had one bolted to the frame because someone tried drilling the original.

As said, it`s only a simple on/off switch and can be mounted nearby or fit the barrel.

Likely just this part in all honesty.... if the barrel works then it'll be contacts > wire.

Paddy was right. Here's what happened:

I ended up getting hold of a second hand top yoke with ignition. The bolts were rounded so were drilled out, ignition and top yoke now separated.

Went to remove the ignition from my bike and same again, bolts were rounded. So had to remove the top yoke (Headlight, speedo, bars etc)

Turns out the ignition bolts were also rounded. I think this is a security measure by Honda rather than attempts and fails. So again, drilled out.

With the old ignition, it was dead anyway, so my Dad decided to strip it and found that one of the wires was badly corroded and had come off. So with a little repair and solder, it went back on. Ignition now working again!

All back and reinstalled and works fine. I had already sold the new spare top yoke so got over half my money back and now have a spare ignition should it go again!

Thought I'd share my experience as could save someone a lot of time!

Sorted mate.

Yeah, they tend to use bolts that just shear when they are done up.
