OK, guys, I have been having issues with the pan. She has not been revving cleanly and misfiring, and backfiring.

I've been told it is going be the coils, then I've been told it's going be the carbs. and get different answers depending on the time of day.

I have removed the carbs and cleaned them, as the idle jets were blocked it seems, and have removed the coils.

secondary resistance is within spec, however, the primary side I am getting a rating of 3.5 ohms.

The Haynes manual says the spec should be between 2.1 and 3.1 ohms.

Would being out by .4 make a big difference?

Not really, but you could be on the right track, check for arching and make sure caps and plugs are in good order.

Your multimeter probably isn't accurate enough to give a reading within the benchmark anyway.
Coil is probably fine. the usual sign of a failing coil is it stops working when hot and starts fine when its cooled down enough.

Mine is other way round, pain when cold, but when warm runs fine.

Have you considered the valve clearances? It's not unknown for clearances to tighten up. The symptoms are poor running and starting when cold but fine when warm.
