Why is this cunt/pariah still in business?
And why do folk still post on his social media machine like sheep?

Because people are generally stupid, and most don't even realise instagram & whatsapp are also owned by facebook.

However, I suppose it can be a useful tool, as long as you use it carefully, not that I'm a facebook user myself.

On the other hand, good on him for telling our Parliament of bandwagon-jumping hypocrites that they're just not worth his time.

Network effect.

Some people and or businesses are impossible to contact via other means.

Therefore I use it with a completely fake profile and only on my old X10 which has a PAYG sim so sure he's harvesting, but harvesting a ghost.

What exactly is he harvesting? phone numbers i usually lose after a phone update, the sort of food i like, who i talk to? until i start to get black mailed i couldn't really give a shit, facebook is pretty crap now, it's mostly groups and meme's anyway with the odd update of who's got up the duff from who i went to school with, it is usefull for advertising small business's and advise on say your bike / car without having to go on to odd forums like this for people to tell you it's been asked 1 million times so we're redundant anyway.

If we have a problem with it brain washing the dreggs in society, well if it's not FB, then it's something else, are we just going to ban stuff to 'protect' these dummies?

We somehow are suffering 'austerity', yet there's more 'state' than ever before, him telling parliament to go swing is amusing, these select committees are fucking pointless and full of twats that like the sound of their own voice

Interesting quote I saw from Edward Snowden recently, which I can't remember but shall try to paraphrase:

Quote:
Not since the War Department was renamed the 'Department of Defense' has there been a more simple yet sinister tactic as mass surveillance being rebranded as 'social media'.

I guess it makes a point but I agree there doesn't really seem to be that much to worry about here.

Or perhaps I'm being too naive in these 'times of good'. If for whatever reason an important entity wanted to blackmail me or worse, they could probably have quite a fun time waving all my internet history at people.

As for the psychological aspect, ultra-targeted advertising or whatever, well that doesn't bother me, in the same way generic billboard advertising doesn't bother me. It's all in the same moral playing field.

I don't mind targeted ad particularly, i'd rather see ads for sruff I'm interested in rather that shite I'm not.

It's all the other potential uses for your data that would bother me, as I've mentioned before.

Health/life insurance going up because they've scraped your social media profile and determined you participate in hight risk activities.

Or motor insurance going up becuae there are frequently pictures of you out late with mates or on group rides.

Unfortunately use of social media is almost a must, especiallyif your running a business.

Incidentally i downloaded my facebook data, and was pleasantly suprised to find that there was nothing there that i wasn't expecting, no call or text logs, secret recordings or contact lists.

Maybe it depends what country your in and what the data protection laws a like there.

Folded arms That can be commercial suicide if you piss off the wrong halfwit and they decide to give you the old trial by social media treatment.

What are people going to do with the fact that I looked up large butt plugs and feather dusters? I would shout out from the roof tops what pizza I ordered and that I once looked at midget porn.

Absolutely nothing... unless you become a person of interest and your views do not align with those in positions of power.

A few weeks ago there something about an aide being outed for being gay:

Here is the link:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/stephen-parkinson-outing-gay-whistleblower-aide-shahmir-sanni-theresa-may-brexit-a8274801.html

They outed him to distract from the stuff he uncovered.

They have done that for years even before the internet. It is just a medium. No big deal in the scheme of things and history will laugh at the furor that it has caused.

Sure it's been going on for years. The medium that it is used just means going all ad hom is even easier and can be used to distract from more relevant and important issues.

As again sure. But why make something which is presumably bad easier to do?

If you remember you and I had a discussion around 2006 about secret employee blacklists. Yet in 2018 it was revealed to be true.

Why make negative things easier for people?

A company with a multi-billion dollar market cap, which offers free to use services. What did people think the value proposition was?

I can't believe this is even news. How stupid must people be to not think that they, or at least all their personal info, were the product?

Don't like it? Don't use it. If you need (really?) to use it for commercial reasons or want to use it, don't share sensitive information that you wouldn't be willing to tell your grandmother/spouse/employer. They've all probably 'friended' you on there anyway.

Personally, I do use facebook, and they probably have harvested information on me, but hey, I don't put anything on there I wouldn't want to be publicly known so... meh.

In fairness, I share way more of my views on here than FB anyway, so Korn, I hope you're listening, that's apparently some valuable shit.

I don't think he uncovered anything, he made some claims which were countered by the accusation of a personal bias.

Quote:
Responding to the allegations, Mr Parkinson revealed that he had been in a relationship with Mr Sanni.

I think this is entirely relevant and inevitable that it came out. If Parkinson hadn't revealed it you can bet the Press would have, and they'd have had no qualms in revealing it just as bluntly.

Incidentally this is why a politician's personal life is relevant to their office. If you're open about your sexual persuasion and business affairs you're not vulnerable to blackmail for money or political influence.

All things are getting easier to do, good and bad.

You can use a spear to stab a mammoth, or Thog in next cave over. Progress, baby, progress.

Precisely. It was really f'ing obvious years ago as well, you'd 'like' something and be put in a group where you could see all the others who had liked that product/brand etc. (so I never liked anything).

It was better before all the advertising appeared but that was always going to happen, those server farms aren't free.
