Hey guys,

Basically, I'm 20 years old and I still drive a moped (I know, it's rather funny/embarrassing) and I'm looking to get my a2 license but I have no idea where to start. I've got my theory booked so that's a plus, but what else do I actually need to know/do? Also, what is the best starter bike for me to go for? I've heard R3, Ninja 300, and also the CBR600F. I'd appreciate it if someone could help me out/give me any suggestions.

Thanks,

Dom.

The DVSA guide on YouTube is as good a place to start as any.

If you've been riding dirty without a CBT, you'll need to do/redo one.

Your training and tests will be done on (in practice) a 500cc bike like a CB500, or even a restricted 650, so by the time you're licensed up you'll be ready to ride pretty much anything.

The 300-ish class of bikes would be fun, but there aren't that many around used, and you'd be taking a step down from your training bike, so don't make any premature decisions.

Absolutely key is to find a decent trainer. Make sure you speak to the person who will actually be training you, not just the admin frippet. You don't want to end up being palmed off onto someone like Mike.

Teff, did you read his post? He’s 20..he rides a ‘ped so has already done CBT and he wants to do A2 licence. His question about bikes was secondary to his question about the best way of going about his tests, so not entirely sure why you lectured him about asking the question. Why are you banging on about A1 tests as well? He may as well get some training from a training school and do his A2

Because he regurgitates the same wall of text every time someone asks.

But what he's actually done is shown us that this forum needs an option to minimise posts on a thread to not necessarily directly ignore but make things look tidier.

If only one could compress a "wall-o-text" it might be more useful than feeling like the positive Dr Quack of forum.

Being the sensible one I'd say its far too early to think about what bike to get since you're probably going to compare whatever you ride for your A2 training to a rocket ship and then feel like your ped is a kids bike once you get back on it so, in theory, would be happy with anything for the first year post A2 license being gained.

Theory > Training > Module 1 > Training > Module 2 ... and relax until A comes around.
