Broke out the CB250, fired her up, checked the lights, indicators, brake light and fitted the top box. Dance!

Ready for a wet week. Rain

Yesterday (Off topic, sorry), I fitted a correctly-sized gel battery to replace the 10mm too tall one I had to fit a couple of years ago. I dug out the correct retaining bracket for the right-height battery and popped it all together, including reattaching a couple of plugs and sockets to the retaining bracket that I'd had to tape into place previously.

Turn key, flashing red FI lamp and FI ERROR on dash.

Oh.

Refit wrong battery.

Starts.

Refit correct battery but leave bracket hanging over the side of the bike.

Starts.

Refit bracket.

FI ERROR

After 2 hours of checking wiring, pulling fuses and cleaning earths, I realized that one of the plug/socket arrangements that I'd fitted to the bracket included the tilt-switch and it went on both ways up. Whenever the bracket was hanging on the wires and draped over the side of the bike the switch was the right way up but as soon as I swung it into position it thought the bike was upside down.

3 questions...

1. Why make the switch mountable both ways up?
2. Why not throw a clearer error than "FI ERROR" on the dash?
3. Why am I not more relieved that this was Sunday and not Saturday when I'd certainly have lost patience more quickly and booked it in for looking at?

Fair point. High mileage old shit like that which gets ridden slowly all the time would probably burn decent oil.

Not technically today but first time I've had a chance... yesterday, new tyres and fresh bit of paper from MOT place.

Does anyone else think the new MOT cert looks like a 12 year olds IT project?

Painted the screen on the bike. Still need to do more work looking a bit bland at the moment.

If it's like my SV you stick it into diagnostic mode to get the actual error code to come up on the dash, without that it'll just show FI error.

Wheeled bike in garage with rear disc lock on. Bent rear disc.
£20 used replacement from ebay, only 0.10mm thinner than the original. All well again.

As mistakes go, could have been worse, hopefully won't do it again for a while.

Do use disc lock reminder, but only removed front disc lock and forgot about the rear.

Fazer was running like shit.

Fitted new plug caps which has sorted out the running like shit problem.

Also gave it a long over due oil + filter change.

It's running sweet once again.

Asked a colleague how the bike was. Fork seals he tells me. Last week it was brakes. Fuuu he was talking about my bike Laughing

https://s20.postimg.cc/66zec0dbx/IMG_20180503_192249.jpg

Popped the dust seal, cleaned with sealmate tool, and packed with grease. Right was not leaking, and still had plenty of soft clean grease from last time. Half hour to fix bodge, ready for work tomorrow. 97k miles on original seals.

Pic of old grease.. it works.

There was oil on caliper but not disc, and visible oil on the radiator and up the left intake - explains why it was running like shit with the FI light last week.. But I would have noticed!?!?!?

Was no real dirt under the seal, but fluid is a couple years old, suspect fork bushings would be worth doing if I keep her.

I had to call out the RAC last night on account of the fact I don't carry tools and the fuse for the starter kept blowing.

I pursuaded to just get me started by bypassing the solenoid and then rode back home.

This morning stripped half the fucking electrical system apart trying to find the cause and eventually found it after sacrificing a couple of fuses.

I've never seen anything like it. This is what was shorting out the electrics...

Replaced the front brake pads and had a realization that my engine braking must be far far less economical than braking normally. The amount I twist the throttle to ease the engine breaking I must be burning a lot of fuel. I barely ever use the brakes and often just pull the lever so people know I'm slowing down.

Can't stop it though, I love the sound too much Penny Coin Penny Coin Penny Coin

You could just pull in the clutch....

Edit: What sort of massive engine are you using? I don't suffer with massive and excessive engine braking on my little triple.

Replaced front master cylinder with a proper 1" item. Bled. Re-routed line while at it.

Replaced oil cooler lines, suspecting that either they, or the cooler, are blocked. Need to give it a run out to see if that's sorted, but the pumps working, as I found out when I hadn't quite nipped up the line to the cooler. Added a touch more oil to replace that.

Chain clean & lube. No tension needed, seems new chain has bedded in.

Took it to Fowlers for it's second service. Put a warranty claim in for a part which is showing wear before its time.
Back in there next Wednesday with youngest bro in law who turns 17 in October to look at 125s. Got a '17 KTM690
as my courtesy bike. Handled quite nicely but vibey as hell and gutless compared to mine. But it had some grunt.
Had to work it hard to see 3 figures, I wonder if it was tuned down for A2? Felt quite agricultural, almost like a diesel
bike, got a few pops and bangs out of it though. Laughing If I had to commute it would be better choice of bike than mine, nimble
in traffic and very flickable on the open road but the mirrors were rubbish because of the vibration in the upper
half of the revs. Not my cuppa tea style wise. Thought the colour LCD screen was cool though.

Ready to race>>>> Cool
