Sorry if this is a bit vague with names etc.

I saw on the news that the current government issued a formal apology and pay up some #plsdon'tsue half a million quid based on some shit Blair was responsible.

i.e. sucking up to Gaddafi "Please don't build nukes and let's pretend Lockerbie, etc. never happened". Or was it to do with Oilololol.

The stuff Blair got away with which some other sod has to clean up is ridiculous

It's not a lot in the grand scheme of things though.

Well no I guess not, but when there's no money for the NHS, public services, etc. I wonder where this will come from.
I think Blair should pay it (probably charges that for an appearance), no doubt he's not even apologised though.

On the face of it, it does appear to have been a dick move, and exactly the sort meddling that rarely works out well for us.

I mean, now he's some Libyan big wig and we're having to come crawling to him rather than to Gaddafi. Poor show.

Half a million quid? My local councillors cost that in allowances in 6 months. It's probably less than a day's running costs in the NHS.

Ha. £500,000 is enough money to keep the NHS running for exactly 126 seconds

They were refreshingly gracious in their acceptance of the apology. I doubt the Grenfell lot will match them when they get their inevitable payouts, even the ones who didn't lose family.
Quote:
(Mr. Belhaj) said he would settle the case for £3 – £1 for him, his wife and their unborn baby - but today it was confirmed he was given no payout at all.

Speaking from Istanbul today he said: 'From the very first moment, I insisted that there must be an apology. I never asked for money because I don’t want to impose this on taxpayers'.

He also thanked Theresa May for her 'heartfelt' letter admitting Britain ‘contributed to their detention, rendition and suffering'.

Still, his wife got half a million anyway.
I sometimes think being a victim of injustice and later receiving compo might not be a bad thing. I can't envisage ever having £500 grand otherwise.

Can I run an accumulator with my Windrush Windfall?

Oh, that'll be a good one!

"Can you prove that you have a right to be here? Do you have any documentation at all?"

"No, mon, not a ting."

"Oh, I'm very sorry. Please have a passport and £10,000, with our apologies. Next."
