Hi Everyone,

Just looking for some advice on a mechanical/electrical issue I had yesterday. Just had my Kawasaki Eliminator 125 MOT'd and new exhaust put on yesterday and while I was riding home it just died. Had a bit of a death rattle before it stopped while riding.

Wheeled it over to the side of the road and tried to start it again and just nothing, just a ticking sound coming from the relay. It did cost a bit of money and I've got my car MOT due this week so can't really afford to take it back to get diagnosed.

It's been sitting around in a garage for the last 6 months without being used, so my first thought is the battery but thought I'd get more advise before buying a new battery and relay to get it back on the road. The only thing that I really don't understand is that it died while I was riding it, so if it isn't the battery it may be the charging system..

Any and all advice is welcome!

If it started off the battery after several months parked then it's not likely the battery failed first time out (though if not maintained a lead acid battery will suffer).

Look at the fuel supply. Fuel can dry up in the pipes and carb tubes to leave gum (and sometimes salts) that can block then free flow of fuel.

I thought that, but it's not getting any turn over from the starter. If there was a fuel issue I'd expect the bike to turn over but not do anything.

I don't think it does, but would a fuel issue affect the starter working?
