my dad owns a 2014 / 15 I think zzr1400, and over the winter was kept in the same garage he breeds birds in. long story short we had a rat problem, and a family of rats decided to chew through the bike causing 5,000 pounds worth of damage. electrics- ruined, the EFI system- ruined, rubber parts- ruined. a literal nest inside the bike, and the more the mechanics got into it the more they found.

anyone else got similar stories?

Not a motorbike but my FIL had his model plane eaten by mice
Was a scale biplane petrol engine radio control hand made from scratch many years ago
Stored in his garage workshop same place as his fishing gear and groundbait
When the mice had finished he had to bin it
He was not happy

I've seen a Mazda munched by mice and a Corsa[*] ruined by rats, but never a Kawasaki knibbled by khordata.

Loom, EFI and manifolds. £5000?

[*] I'd like to have said Rover, but literal truth trumps alliteration.

I've had a mouse nest in an airbox more than once.

Redex did absolutely nothing for it.

Mice started a nest in our(farm) quad bike airbox despite it being in daily use.
No mice were ever seen, perhaps they got sucked through.

You can keep your rampant rats well away from my Rover if you don't mind. Laughing

Local cat comes by once in a while to see the bike but gives me the look of death every time I attempt to call it over. Sad

Nevertheless a bit of a shame for a 4year old monster of a sports tourer to be chewed to fuck like that. If it was fucked, at least the motor would make a track day kit car silly quick. Thumbs Up

Same here, I had mice in the air box of my KR1, they didn't chew anything on the bike but left a fair amount of sunflower seed shells in the air box.

With Diesel swigging mutant rats about I'd love to actually see what kind of chemical cocktail it actually takes to kill one now? They'll be biting the lid of battery casings next to slurp down a nice drink of sulphuric acid. Laughing

My old cat made her home in my garage.
Despite having my bikes and my fishing gear in there, I’ve never had any issues with mice or rats Thumbs Up .

My new young is allowed in the garage any time he likes and I still do not have an issue with vermin.

Cat = no mouses Thumbs Up

My folding bike cover (tubular steel frame with waterproof cover around it) holds a massive ant's nest every summer as they like getting into the tubes and breeding. Little shits.

22nd nazi tank division suffered heavy losses during battle for Stalingrad in 1942 because mice chewed the wiring in the tanks. Don’t think Red Army trained the mice, but I read this story in several sources before

I've had spiders nesting in the bike cover and the bike recently. I wondered where they were coming from then I took the seat off and found the nest (under the actual seat).

I had them nesting in my Corvette during the winter , well tiny mice anyway.
Started with traps and would catch/kill 2-3 a week, eventually that started to slow and I switched to poison bait .

Fixing the point of entry might help too, but mice can fit through such unimaginable tiny gaps it's sometimes hard to see.
