What's the justification for having bus lanes at all?

It's just about encouraging types of transportation that councils want, versus punishing those that they don't.

The odd bus-lane user out might be viewed as taxis and minicabs, which are often ancient or poorly maintained diesels doing single (paying) occupant journeys in the most congested areas.

Weirdly, Glasgow allows taxis and private hires in bus lanes but not motorcycles, while Edinburgh allows taxis and motorcycles but not private hires.

Whimsy all the way down.

The justification for black cabs (being allowed in bus lanes) is that they have to pickup/drop off fares from the kerb Confused

Judging by the amount of cars that turn across bus lanes without a mirror check, I doubt they've even considered anything other than big red things might be using them.

They don't have to. It's still big, polluting, congestion-causing 4 wheel transport tooling around city centres, often only carrying one passenger. If #BlackCabsMatter didn't already exist, it would be hard to justify introducing them.

I suspect the major justification is that black cabals are smart enough to tip their mayors and councillors, while Uber aren't. See that London for evidence.

Hence my emoji, they tend to like stopping wherever the f**k they want, even when that involves blocking traffic because they CBA pulling up to the kerb.

I think it's mainly that they protest over any and anything that stops them earning 40k a year (tax free of course).
