Hi,

Interesting thing happened to me today while driving my tin top.

Guy on a dirt bike rode past dangerously and kicked (read: destroyed) my wing mirror - This was intentional.

Is that what we're doing these days, guys, and is this practice common?

I certainly never behaved like that when I was riding regularly.

Given the lack of wing mirror I'm now way less likely to notice bikers riding dangerously (or otherwise).

Also, if this practice is common, I can only think that it will cause hatred for bikers by other motorists, which is sad, especially because they are less likely to drive in a way that is courteous to riders.

I usually try to keep observant and even move out of the way for riders (in an exaggerated manner).

Really, we don't want other road users to consider us riders to be worthless, low life scum, do we, and have them look forward to our early demise? After all, the majority of riders aren't psychopaths.

Thanks,

Spring

Do you read the news at all? It's hardly respresentative of the majority of riders. These arseholes are byklyf scum - read chavs on (mostly stolen) bikes. It's nothing to with riding to them it's all about the antisocial behaviour and an easyethos of facilitating their crimes. They are well despised on here mainly because they're responsible for massive amounts of bike theft.

No different to a pedestrian doing the same, just your arsehole happened to be on a bike. I don't know why you would think that's the in thing with riders.

While not trying to excuse the behaviour, you missed out a description of the events immediately leading up to this... presumably he didn't just pick you out at random, ride over to you, and put the boot in?

I think if that would have happened to me whilst in my car, the sudden incident would have caused me to swerve into the path of the bike due to the shock? Thinking

I was hoping that the low life in question would read this at some point.

Then again, the ability to read implies a degree of education perhaps inappropriate here, so I may have been over ambitious.

Though I don't ride much these days, I have always identified with bikers, and so was shocked and very angry to be attacked by someone on a bike.

To me, the only reason to ride a bike is passion, and I wasn't aware of 'byklyf'.

Apologies if my post insulted you. Still in shock.

He rode along side me, shook his fist at me, decreased speed falling beside me, and then accelerated past aggressively whilst kicking my wing mirror.

Just before this happened I was driving normally in the centre of my lane. I did not change lane.

Glad that I didn't swerve into the path of the bike. Though that would have been justice, (1) I would prefer not to end up hurting someone, and (2) imagine the inconvenience.

Nope - That's not me. Never had a dashcam nor intend to get one.

He wasn't just hooning then, the shake of the fist says he felt you'd done something wrong.

Apparently so, and let's face it, that's a common occurrence, and God only knows what this worthless fool thought that I did, but ultimately, most of us don't determine that the best course of action is criminal damage.

I'm a biker, remember, and I've been wronged countless times, but I would never sink to these depths, as ultimately they are indefensible.

Was he perhaps aggrieved by your lack of awareness of what you did? Possibly quite some distance back? Axiomatically, you can't know.

I'm sure that your driving is much better than average, like 95% of drivers. However, perhaps you could consider having your driving independently assessed just to confirm your elite status.

Of course, if his crosser was unplated or he was wearing a hoodie or had his lid perched on top of his head, DEATH MURDER KILL. It's the only thing that will stop them.
