Had a great few days Rolling Eyes

First, whilst changing the oil, the sump bolt slipped out of my fingers and got stuck in the catch pan hole, blocking it causing 3 litres of used engine oil to cover the driveway... Grrr. Awesome.

Then, after cleaning it and going for a ride Sunday, on the way to work Monday managed to hole the radiator with a stone. Awesome.

Managed to limp home and remove for taking to Engineering shop.

The cables weakened and broke right at the edge of the ignition case but the plastic outer sleve wasn't cut.
Its a concentrated fatigue break.
On posting the problem on a Street Triple forum, it seems the problem is not exclusively mine.
Some have experience of the problem, others are checking and discovering signs of fatigue.
A bit of factory reinforcing in this area wouldn't have gone amiss.

After replacing the luggage carrier on the Mash yesterday, today was time to put a top box on it, I didn't use the 1 that I'd originally put on it, as the 1 I had lying around had a better base plate ..

Ordered EBC clutch plates, & springs, and normal cable & gasket. The recently replaced ones are slipping already, but they were cheap. Adjusted it as best I can.

Chain clean, tension, lube. Air pressure, rear was a bit low.

Tidied up some cable routing and wires.

New YSS shock on the ZZR

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1746/41466266545_bcaf3c5679_b.jpg

Despite being low miles the old one was like a pogo stick and made cornering a bit hit and miss.

It now handles vastly better also as a bonus the new one weighs 1.8KG less..... I think Kawasaki had the OEM one injected with lead or something.

Every ZZR1100 I rode had a fucked/shit rear shock, all were sub 30K. My one was replaced with a Maxton. Had them tweak the forks while I was there, the extra cost was minimal over the shock, not horribly far off for a bloke my size, they said.
Totally transformed the bike, you had confidence chucking it into a corner as long as you weren't *too* silly about it, it's still a big old bike after all.

Greased the rear brake up to make it stop sticking. Stops better now too.

Played with the clutch some more. Think I've got it, no idea how long it'll last for.

Did 150ish miles. Clutch seems bedded in nicely, for now, and there's adjustment left in it.

Pro-tip - If I can keep up with you on your big old adventure GS, you're doing it wrong. Not sure if he was scared of the bike, road, or both.

Want Gixxer to be able to stand in for Striple when going away.

So committed a heinous crime. Topbox on sportsbike Embarassed (already had boxes, just needed a bracket and spare seat to attach it to. All in, cost less than just the frame / arms on a givi rack and I've not messed with the standard bike).

Then an R&G Tail Tidy (first pic, side by side for comparison)

And finally, a Pigeon special chain luber. Only cable tied in place, so easily removed. But did drill a hole in top of chain guard.

Listened to IoM practice on Manx Radio, ate a Madras while watching the sun go down. A good day Smile

Realigned the forks, unbent the left footpeg, replaced the wrecked mirror, unbent the indicator bracket and welded up the cracked frame ear.

You wouldn't think you could do so much damage just from dropping a bike at 10 mph in a field. That's what I get for letting my dad have a ride, I guess.

Not really, I knew a bloke who did the same on an R1.... he even went the extra mile by mounting the number plate on the top box WITH an LED light.. 100 percent legal.

Investigated a slight clunking while pushing the Ninja backwards, to discover that the rear caliper was being held on by one bolt rather than the two suggested by Kawasaki-san, and was therefore free to rotate - fortunately backwards rather than forwards.

It did somewhere between 12 and 25 miles like that today, surprisingly few kittens were murdered. The front bolt is just for show, right? Whistle

I'm going to use a black cable tie to hold it in place. Strength through diversity. Folded arms
