Anyone use car wax to protect the shell/paint?

My previous lids have all got scratched up far too easily. Old lid the orange paint has faded to a light yellow, probably from uv or the cleaning wipes I used.

Years ago a dispatch rider told me you spray general silicone lubricant on things (or use a bottle of silicone and a tissue) to stop plastics from fading.

He had a 1990s zzr600 and the plastics on that looked pretty new for the age.

Any decent quick detailer spray. Poorboys or Meguiars are alright and affordable Good for visor and debugging of the bike itself too.

Wax on visor? Interesting.

I am thinking that a hard wax will have less solvents than the liquids www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350721610973 says on the tin "naphtha... avoid plastics".

I use liquid turtlewax on my helmet & visor to help rain bead off in winter shit riding. Turtlewax specifically because it says on the bottle that it has no abrasives in it unlike some others. Keeps my helmet shiny glossy and healthy looking. Razz

Wax and polish are two quite different things.

Carnuba and Beeswax. Looks so much more awesome when you crash and you slide even further.

Storing the helmet correctly will help a lot as well

In a protective cover out of the light and where it won't get bashed will make a difference

Also seen YouTube's where a detailer used it on interior trim, and I have to agree it works very well. Does not last as long as a proper double coat of high quality wax, but takes way less time and doesn't leave any white residue.

Keep it in the bag.
Don't ride in conditions where there is debris flying through the air.
Get it repainted if it chips.
Buy a lid with good paint.

Polish won't do mich to protect paint.

Maybe some uv protection.

A spray of clear coat may do some good. But costs.

I use Dodo Juice with Carnuba wax, currently their Banana Wax, can get small sample sizes from Cleanyourcar.co.uk, around £6 per tub and enough to polish Bike and Helmet for years, proabaly enough to coat 3-5 cars in a tub, as well as protecting from swirlies, it's easier to get the bugs off.

I read that as "I simply wipe my helmet with damp kitten roll every week" and had a much funnier picture in my head.
