I have an issue with my Kawasaki 1500vn cruiser 1999.
When the bike is put into first or second gear the red temperature light comes on and cuts the bike out. It will tick over in neutral.... The bike is not overheating.
I have checked the temperature switch, all the wiring. With no success I have taken it to a mechanic. They said it is the CDI unit, I purchased this now to find out it is not this....
The mechanic now is saying he doesn't know the problem...
Any thoughts / suggestions???

Check or bypass the side stand switch to see if it makes a difference.
This cuttting out when putting it in gear relates to the side stand being detected in the down position. (safety device).

A fair few Kawasaki's use an odd diode system for controlling the idiot lights. Check a wiring diagram, buy a Haynes manual and see if your bike is one of them.
If the diodes fail you can get lots of odd things happening.

The diodes are normally in the headlight.
