Well hopefully will be coming into some funds in a couple of months and a big chunk will be going on a bike. Always had large trailies last one being a Varadero. Got a FJR as a stop gap after having a bike stolen but not too keen on the sports style although there is nothing wrong with it.

I have liked the BMW R1200 GS Adventure for a while and am big enough to make them look small. The trouble is that there are a few variants of the Adventure models. Which one is which and what is the difference between each of them?

I had a 2010 adventure for 18 months. I would get another tomorrow for 2 up touring. Muddy green lanes in the Cotswolds didn't phase it. I had no issues in the time i had it and traded it in for an 800gs when mrs did test. There were issues with the early watercooled model, some recalls as well. Rogerborg has mentioned the handshake problem previously, the new ones seem to be much better. Was recently looking into them, but the 850 out there now does the job with better fuel economy and a less premium price.

Yup, an early water-cooled one killed Kevin Ash. BMW then fitted a steering damper in 2014 for no reason at all, so I'd avoid the 2013 models.

Final drives need nothing done until they need everything done.

The 800/850s are fine for humans, but I can see why Skudd wants the 1200.

Sorry, I don't know about the many variants and specials, just that the Adventure has wire wheels and a much bigger fuel tank.
