I have all the OS maps for the country online, so I suppose I can plot a route, and make some sort of "road book" up for the journey

If you can, download the relevant sections to your phone or another portable device, as well as having a paper coppy stashed away somewhere. Nothing worse than being stuck in a GPS deadzone and not being able to find out where you went wrong because the maps won't load! (

I'm thinking of riding much of the route on my 250cc and making notes, I have to go that way soon anyway.

Always a good idea!

spent a few hours messing about with OS online, viewranger, and google maps street view, to work out how to do deal with busy junctions etc

Plotted a route with viewranger, mostly B roads, and follows national cycle routes #4 and #246 for a time.

Length: 135.32 miles
Total Ascent: 4384 feet
Total Descent: 4375 feet
Max Elevation: 924 feet
Min Elevation: 49 feet

managed 72 miles today, I now think maybe I can do this - cos if I set off at dawn, I should be past the half way point in the morning, then I can just take as long as it takes for the rest of it

ordered slime filled tubes, and schwabe marathon tyres - had a puncture yesterday, change tyre twice, first time I somehow got a flat changing it, used my second spare and so ran out of tubes, had to swing past Halfords for a spare before I set out on todays ride

wish I'd tried the sticky patch now, couldve done that without taking the tyre off
