Hi all,

My 2001 Honda CBR600f (fuel injected) is having an issue which I think is electrical.

The problem:
Bike cuts out - the FI light glows and the engine dies. Has happened three times, it restarts easy enough but today the dash did some weird stuff when I restarted it, appeared to lose power momentarily and show some odd symbols (just lines etc). Fuel pump is priming as normal.

Background:
I've had the bike for a very long time, this is the first sign of a fault. It doesn't get ridden often. It's been a few months up until friday when I rode it for about 5 miles. The bike cut out once just as I got home but didn't die completely, guess still being in motion kept it turning and it just felt like lost power.

I charged the battery (it wasn't totally flat, but its been a while and it sounded low when turning over, still started fine 3-4 times). Today it turned over strong and started immediately, but cut out about 100 m down the road with the FI light glowing and the odd dash thing when I tried to restart. I did ride it home, then it cut out again on my driveway, this time the revs dropped to about 300 rpm before it died as before. Started fine.

My best guess:
Loose/burnt out/corroded electrical connection somewhere either to/from the battery or ground.

I'm going to have a look this weekend, any other suggestions whilst I am in there?

Cheers,

Donny

I can't add anything, but would interested to see what you find. My F4i did this once a while ago but never has since.

Sounds very loose 'connectiony'

I'd go with your best guess to start with as well and squish some switch cleaner in all the connectors you open to check.
In case you overlook it, check where the ground wires connect to the frame as well, I've seen/fixed a few overlooked build ups of corrosion in those areas.

Remember to disconnect the battery before checking connector blocks, more so with the brain box.

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions.

It was a loose battery terminal. Motobatt so screw in terminals and the positive had come loose, must have been disconnecting over bumps. Sorted now.
